Stain block paint

I painted stain block paint on a ceiling because I thought I had sorted a leak but I think it's back. What's the best way to remove stain block paint? I'm thinking sandpaper, but am not keen on all the dust that will create. Is there any other way?

Can you not just paint over it again with more stainblock and then repaint? Zinseer is the best one.

Hi @RusholmeRuffian what it is is that I want to remove it so that I can sort the leak and then know for sure that it is fixed.

The reason I know the leak is still there is because while it covered it nicely initially it has now bubbled.

Ah. Maybe scrape the bubbled bit off with a scraper off and start again?

That might work.

Leaks are so annoying in a fully tiled bathroom. Modern bathrooms are lovely, but a ballache when something goes wrong

How much stain came through ans how quick? I just had a leaky ceiling redecorated and within a day of painting a small amount of stain was visible again. Decorator said sometimes the dampness of the paint reactivates it or something. No idea if that's true!

But I assume if there was a delay it's probably the leak not fixed.

Ordinary gloss paint, then paint over that. Worked for me, better than the specialist stain blocker I'd bought.

It wasn't quick. It's been a few months Sad

The stain has come through so I know there is still a leak. I need to remove the stain block so I know what the situation is with the leak
