Legalities of moving during isolation period

So, addition to recent thread.

Just some questions on whether it's actually legal to move?

We don't feel too unwell so can physically move, but we are coughing etc unfortunately.

We have moved most of our stuff, but a few large items need two strong people to carry. Also I'm not sure whether professional cleaners can enter the property during the isolation even if we are not there?

I really don't want to break the law. The LL has said if everything is not gone by end of tenancy date (5 days before end isolation period) and the property is not professionally cleaned we will be charged until that is done.

The interesting thing is that 4 days before we got covid the LL attended to fix a major problem that had gone on for over a year along with 4 tradesmen and NONE of them worre masks, so for all I know we got it from them!

The guidance is not clear to me. Can we move and do all of the necessary bits around it? I just want to be out of this place so hoping we can't get in trouble if we just do it all.

Does anyone know?

You are absolutely not allowed to move house while you have covid.

QueenStromba · 14/06/2021 15:17

Who gave notice?

samosamo · 14/06/2021 15:56

We gave notice.

Ordinarily we'd have been out of there completely long ago. Had everything booked but had to cancel cleaners etc because of isolation.

Can cleaners and movers legally go in if we are not in the property?

You can’t legally leave the property, I don’t think, so you won’t be able to go out for them to come in.

I also don’t think you’ll find many cleaners/movers who’d be happy to take that risk. It’d be pretty unfair on their next clients.

You can't legally not be in the property unless you've had to access medical care. The government guidelines are a bit wishy washy here's they just ask for landlords to be flexible. Since you gave notice they might be able to charge 3x rent for the extra days (don't mention that to them in case they aren't aware). If they try to charge you that then my advice is don't pay it and let the tenancy deposit scheme decide it is fair.

Crikey.

The thing is I'm also a LL (just rented temporarily when moving to a new area. I'm moving into a purchased home now) and I'd not deal with my tenants this way.

Maybe thats why I'm not rich...... :p

We paid full rent on time, 18 months, went easy on them when all sorts went wrong, even a broken fridge for weeks during a hot summer, and they nickle and dime us while we've got covid.

It's just YUK.

But thx. Looks like we're in a bit of a spot.... hmmm

I'm also so angry now that they were in our home without masks on.

They came, we left. We returned while they were still there (3 hours later) and they all had masks off!

4 days later we've all got covid. It's just grrrrrrrrr!!!
