Please help me choose between these two sofas

These are the two we have narrowed our choices to...

It's for a through lounge that goes into dining room. Walls are currently cream, open to getting changed. Carpet is cream coffee colour and doors are oak.

The dining room will have this dining table with four chairs to be decided but probably try to match the sofas.

The lounge will have this sideboard with TV on top:

Which of the sofas do you prefer please and what colour would you go with? Am hard at visualising. Thank you.

@davros I don't know but wouldn't the world be a dull place is all we cares about was what was in fashion n fell for the hype created by people wanting to make money?! I'd happily paint my house on yellow and purple stripes if that's what I liked regardless of what's "in".

I think you would regret the loose back cushions on the brown sofa. Those kinds of sofas look shabby quickly. However it looks comfortable and that is crucial.
I love the blue but it doesn't look at all comfortable.

Davros · 14/06/2021 14:22

bonfireheart you're absolutely right and I am notorious with my family for having a bad "eye". I've never lived down the sage and mustard chequerboard tiles 🤮

One of the best pieces of advice on decorating I ever got was not to try and do it all at once, but do a layer at a time. So get the furniture in, and let your thoughts settle before you look at paint and wallpaper. And then think about lighting as another layer. And accessories like rugs, and cushions, maybe drinks tables, decorations….

Obviously some people can pull these things together effortlessly. But I’ve found that it takes the pressure off for me, and I end up with things I really like so it feels like home and not like I’m living in a catalogue if that makes sense.

bonfireheart · 14/06/2021 16:54

@thelegohooverer that is actually great advice thank you. The table and side board don't arrive for a few weeks and actually once they're in I can get an idea of space and colours, thank you.

Not mad keen on either, but out of the two, assuming this is going to be your main sofa, not an occasional use one, I would say Sofaology looks a better bet, the low back on the DFS one doesn’t look comfy to me. Good luck with what you choose, if I can offer some advice (after a sofa nightmare with Furniture Village, buy on interest free credit, if there is a problem the finance company will help bring about a resolution.

Popcornbetty · 14/06/2021 17:31

Definately sofaology one!

bonfireheart · 14/06/2021 18:24

That's so useful @Roselilly36 because I've not heard great things about sofology!

You mentioned Barker and Stonehouse - have you tried their sofas - in every colour imaginable. These are so comfy, squashy, but retain their shape. In store they have so many fabrics and colours for this. The chaise is amazing,

Sofology , but far too much gold , table, cabinet m, wallpaper, couch it looks tacky , cheap and will date very quickly.

Davros · 14/06/2021 20:11

I don't think that's unusual at the moment unfortunately. I have ordered and paid for furniture from the Cotswold Company and have been given a 16-20 week expected delivery
