Blinds / Shutters / ASD kiddo / cost help

We will be moving into a 4 bed new build up in the north east soon. I can’t find any company that tells you upfront how much it costs for them to install blinds or shutters and I’d hoped for a ball park figure before we move, as it’s our first property and we have no clue. One of our neuro-divergent teens can’t do stripes so we can’t have slats, and one has a dust allergy so no curtains. So it’s probably just standard roller blinds or solid shutters on 5 standard windows, as our bifold & patio doors are not overlooked. We want them measured and fitted rather than handyman or diy installed as some will need to be blackout. Any help would be very much appreciated whether it’s quotes or what worked for their neuro divergent kids :-)

Not sure where exactly you are going in the NE but these do quite good area coverage.

www.homefairblinds.com/

They have a massive selection of styles and patterns etc. I'll see if I can find an invoice as to what we paid.

That's brilliant thank you so much :-)

We had 5 roller blinds (all blackout) and a vertical and paid £355 3 years ago. That included measuring and fitting.

If I remember right they have a basic selection of fabrics (but still quite a wide choice) and then you can pay a bit extra for other fabrics.

Thanks so much @AfternoonToffee You have been a huge help :-)

No worries, all the best with the move.

blinds2go www.blinds-2go.co.uk/energy-saving-thermal-blinds.htm are those too "stripey"? Got a chocolate one in our bathroom and near to blackout as a tight fit in the window. Very impressed

mrwalkensir · 13/06/2021 00:09

they're also very lightweight

Ladyrattles · 13/06/2021 09:42

Thanks. We've had many disasters in the past with blinds so we want someone else to measure up and fit them this time, especially the black outs.

Approach the owners with the request. The people who bought our house had an autistic teen who needed specific windows because he tried to jump out of them. we let them send window fitters to measure up so they could fit them on day 1 in the new house.

Awww that's lovely you did that. Ours is a new build so the house isn't finished yet. I could probably ask the developer if we could get someone in to measure up before we move in. I just wanted to know if we should expect it to be 1k or 2k or something way out of our league before i embarrass myself by having to say no when they've come out to measure.

I think realistically you probably need to budget for 3-4k for shutters but roller blinds could be well under 1k. We used Hilarys Blinds recently and we had a pricey vertical blind option for 4 medium sized + 3 large windows. Just ask the developer and go with the fitter (or send someone else) so you can jot down the measurements and then use them to get quotes from other companies.
bookgirl1982 · 13/06/2021 11:11

We've just paid £670 for a local company to fit shutters to three windows.

The cost was pretty much the same as the shutters on blinds2go but obviously fitting is included too.

Candleabra · 13/06/2021 11:11

Ask your contact at the development sales office. It's a really common request. They'll have all the measurements and might even have a good contact - they usually outsource all the show home window dressing.

Thanks everyone, so many good suggestions :-)
