Dulux natural hessian

Has anyone used this paint and if so were you happy with the colour? I want a warm neutral shade for my north facing but quite light living room and also for my sunny kitchen/dining room and my dark hall stairs and landing. It's a lot of paint and I don't want to make a mistake. Tia for any input.

We have Egyptian Cotton in our dark corridors/stairs and it's a nice neutral. A bit lighter than Natural Hessian - doesn't have quite the same warm pink tone, but it's certainly not cool.

CheerfulBunny · 11/06/2021 12:20

We painted the kitchen with it last year. Lovely and warm and creamy. I want to do the living room with it (but can't face the upheaval at the moment). The cupboards are Natural Calico which is much lighter and more beige-toned.

colderandeatsmincepiesalot · 11/06/2021 12:21

We have painted our bedrooms Natural Hessian - yes a warm colour - not cool or greyish at all. Goes with any colour too. Nice shade - pebbly beige I suppose?

Anna713 · 11/06/2021 12:24

Thanks for all your comments. I might try Egyptian cotton in the hall and natural hessian in the other rooms. I have dreading the upheaval, especially as I have a young dog.

Just try to remember which walls are painted with each colour - we are constantly trying to touch up EC walls with the NH paint (and vice versa)SmileSometimes wish we'd just opted for EC throughout.

Roselilly36 · 11/06/2021 13:03

Natural Hessian is my favourite colour for walls. I had this colour in my last house, always had a lot of compliments.

emma123456 · 11/06/2021 13:41

We’ve got Natural Hessian - I’m done with it, looks dated now.

I agree, I've had both Natural Hessian and Egyptian Cotton for years now. About to repaint or EC lounge with a bolder colour.

bravotango · 11/06/2021 14:48

I didn't like it very much - in my dark hallway it looked almost purple! You need to paint a big piece of paper with the sample and hold it against the wall in different parts of the room(s)

nevernotstruggling · 11/06/2021 14:52

I read it as Durex natural hessian 😂😂😂

wineymummy · 11/06/2021 15:14

It's on the ceiling of our living room courtesy of the previous owners and it really sucks the light out. Can't wait to get the brilliant white out and cover it up!

Oh no, I can't see it working as a ceiling colour at all!

Pewpew · 11/06/2021 15:27

We used it and its basically magnolia

Anna713 · 11/06/2021 15:57

I dont want magnolia but it's so difficult choosing a colour. I dont want grey and I think a darker colour would be too overpowering. They are not huge rooms. I was thinking about just white but that would be too cold looking I think. It has to go with the mid blue sofa I'm thinking of getting and oak flooring. I have cream now but I dont like that either. It's too yellow. I'll have to make a decision soon. I have 10 matchpots.

@ChequerBoard it doesn't work, at all. But to be fair every ceiling in this house is painted a colour other than white (blue, ocre, pink...) so the hessian didn't seem quite so bad! Slowly slowly we'll get it sorted...

PigletJohn · 11/06/2021 16:44

I used the Hessian, Calico and Cotton family to redecorate almost an entire house, but different in adjacent rooms. They all look somewhat different depending on lighting and room size, and your choice of carpet colour or other furnishings.

PigletJohn · 11/06/2021 16:47

you might like something on the "Almond White/Peach White/Rose White which look almost white, especially in a ceiling, and less stark than PBW. I would always do ceilings in Matt, even if you are doing the walls in the same colour in a silk or something. Being matt prevents the eye from focussing on the ceiling, and hides imperfections.

CheerfulBunny · 11/06/2021 17:37

I've got dulux Jasmine White in our bedroom which I believe is quite popular from other threads. It's really lovely but much whiter than NH. You might like that if you want less creaminess?

cataclysmiclife · 11/06/2021 17:39

I had natural hessian in three different houses but think it looks a bit old fashioned now and really boring!!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 11/06/2021 17:42

yes, in our living room & hall in previous house.
absolutely loved it.

was tempted to use it again for our bedroom in new house but thought we should try something else.
I don't mind the new, lighter shade but when next paint bedroom I'll go back to Natural Hessian.

unless DH finally agrees to charcoal black walls 🤞

I think we have Jasmine White, if not then definitely was in top 3 as the name rings a bell

ribbed for nobody's pleasure?
Lougle · 11/06/2021 17:52

I've used it in my pantry and I like it.

APurpleSquirrel · 11/06/2021 17:58

We've used it in our main bathroom (& Egyptian Cotton in the en-suite) & it's definitely darker than magnolia which is what it was before. I like it as it goes well with the tile colour & feels warmer but that is in a south-facing room.

Anna713 · 11/06/2021 18:10

I will definitely look at jasmine white. Thanks for all your suggestions - it does help. My husband is just not interested so it helps to have other people's views.
