I've damaged the Amtico!

I've done something very stupid and expensive Confused We had Amtico flooring fitted throughout our downstairs last week and I used the steam mop on it yesterday without realising it would damage it. There are now 'zebra stripes' all over it.
Have I completely ruined it? Im hoping against all hope that someone knows of a product which could help. DH is being remarkably calm......

Contact Amtico directly for advice. If you have ruined it, you could perhaps claim in your insurance?

Thanks, hadn't thought of contacting them. I'll try that.

Do you have a picture of the stripes?

It could be you have disturbed the dressing layer on the top and need to use the amtico floor stripper and then maintainer product to get it back to pristine condition.

The process is described here:
https://www.amtico.com/media/2465731/amtico-wear-and-care-leaflet.pdf

My amtico flooring fitter told me not to use a steam mop as over time it would impact the adhesive under the flooring and could cause lifting.

But definitely speak to your fitter and/of Amtico customer service for advice.

Yes, you can even get the maintainer and stripper from John Lewis.

Thank you. I've attached a photo (hopefully!).
Amtico have replied and said it might be that the moisture has been trapped between the layers and it might just need a few days to dry out. They also suggested the 'Amtico stripper' so we could give that a go. Thanks for your advice Smile

Think my floor is identical! I steam mine quite often and its still in good nick!

Off topic somewhat, but it’s a nice floor!

It does look like the dressing layer is disturbed. If you do get the floor stripper just be aware then when you put it on it will look much worse initially - it will bring the whole layer of dressing off, like dry skin sloughing off after sunburn.

When I used it for the first time, I really thought I had completely ruined for my whole floor, but once it's cleaned off and the maintainer fluid applied, it looks like brand new again.

Do you just whizz over it with your steam mop? Nothing is getting the grubby marks off my amtico and I'm getting desperate to try something, anything, other than scrubbing each tile on my hands and knees 😫

I also have amtico flooring and use a steam mop, never had any issues and flooring is 5.5yrs old. I do whizz round fairly quickly, I worry about melting the glue so don't leave it in the same place for long!

Thank you, I'm getting closer every day to just trying that!

No answers for you but what is the name of your Amtico? Think I have the same. I had glue marks left on mine after it was fitted and I called the fitters back and I think they used stripper on it and then the Amtico maintainer and nearly all the marks gone now.

wizbit93 · 19/08/2026 13:44

Thanks @Advocodo. I can’t remember the name, I can’t believe it was five years ago I posted this! Tbh I’ve learned to live with it now.
I’m glad to hear your flooring is sorted out now. It’s such an expensive type and a pain when there are issues!
