Do you have this unit? Have you seen this unit on display in any showroom?

Does it have to be that exact unit? Pretty much all kitchen companies offer corner solutions. We are having 2 similar ' le mans' style units in our new kitchen.

Key thing is to check the quality of the shelving and it's weight capacity.

Dilbertian · 06/06/2021 20:13

Yes, that unit, though not necessarily that make. I haven't seen it anywhere, only the 'magic corner' one where the door opens away from the corner and the second pair of baskets remains within the cupboard.

I have had one of these and whilst the baskets were very good and could hold a very decent weight. I prefer the hinged door corner cupboard I now have that gives me open access to the whole space. It depends on what you want to use the space for - daily access to saucepans then go for the Le Mans mechanism. Max storage space then I think the hinged door is better.

Whoops I used the wrong name. It was a magic corner I had where the whole shelves came out with the door. Le Mans on this site are the kidney bean swing out shelves which hold even less

We have one like this. It was here when we moved in but it's brilliant. I have cast iron le creuset cast iron casserole pots on the shelves so they are strong.

I absolutely hate the hinged door corner cupboards that I have! They are the cupboards of doom, where everything has to be moved to get to anything behind them, and anything that ends up in the abyssal depths of the far corner is damned to be abandoned for eternity.

I have 5 corner cupboards - 3 base and 2 wall. One, only ONE, has a carousel in it. I'd like to get rid of them completely in my new kitchen. As it is, I'm likely to end up with 1 base carousel and 1 blind corner.

My inlaws have the howdens version of the magic corner one and we have the howdens version of the wierd shaped one that you pull out yourself both are good and easy to use. I have a ton of spices and the like on the top shelf of mine and bags of flour, pasta rice and storage jars on the bottom. All the stuff i use a lot is at the front so I don't need to pull it out too much or often

NotMeNoNo · 07/06/2021 16:37

We had a unit like that in a rented house. It's the best corner solution IMO for a straight corner. Although you can fit in less than shelves, it's much more accessible. The ones where the first set of baskets are attached to the door are not too bad, but the second baskets don't pull out as you noticed.
The unit it fits in is a standard 800 or 1000mm blind corner unit, you could order that, remove the shelf and get your fitter to put the mechanism in.

I wish I could see one in Real Life.

IME the magic corners are noisy, and Le Mans are silent

I prefer Le Mans.

Dilbertian · 08/06/2021 00:08

If I have to choose between the two I'd definitely go for Le Mans over Magic Corner. But I do want to have a proper look at the one I linked.

You know, I have a very basic corner unit with fixed shelves and I can get far more in it then I could with that. I just chuck stuff I rarely use in the harder to reach bit with all my plastic sieves and colanders on top.

Dilbertian · 08/06/2021 18:48

Can't bear corner shelves. Hate the ones I've got.

I hate corner units too @Dilbertian.

We’re having a new kitchen installed in a few weeks and I’ve decided to not to have any. There are three corners. One forms the start of a peninsula and will be open book shelves on the dining side. One is on the wall adjoining the utility so there will be a cupboard in the kitchen but it will be accessible via a door flush on the wall in the utility. The third is just going to be a void. The kitchen designer was bothered about what he saw as wasted space. As far as I’m concerned it just means I can fit everything I want on that run.

.

NotMeNoNo · 09/06/2021 11:10

I think the best corner units are L shaped with shallow shelves, like this. It's not a standard design but easy to adapt. We had one like this and it was great for big stuff like woks and baking trays. If your design needs a straight/blind corner you're a bit stuck.

NotMeNoNo · 09/06/2021 11:11

Lost my image there for some reason

I have the ones in the link! I really like them and they hold lots.

It is a hassle when something falls off the “inside” shelves and you have to reach past the baskets to get pick it up . Other than that I am really glad we got those over other corner solutions.

Dilbertian · 09/06/2021 16:19

I want to have a walk-in larder in one corner, and I'm thinking of having the shelves in it offset like that, NotMeNoNo, to the full depth of the corner.
