Ideas for painting my kitchen diner please!

We have bought a house with a perfectly nice but rather boring kitchen diner. It has cream kitchen units and mint tiles, which unfortunately don’t really go with how I would ordinarily decorate, but can’t be changed as we’ve just spent our last bit of cash on redecorating the grotty bathroom! (Please don’t talk to me about painting tiles - I made a massive mess of that in our last house).
The walls are currently a colour that I assume is Dulux Apple White and I’m itching to paint them something wild, but I don’t think anything will go... Also, husband is colourblind and really wants the whole lot white or cream. Floor is oak effect, dining table is actual oak, and there’s room for a two seater sofa. Any suggestions for paint colours or other decorating ideas welcome! For guidance, I generally like my house to look like an artist lives there, despite the fact I have a really boring job.

Yes it's hard to tell how orange it is. I guess once you have a short list you will need to buy a few testers. One tip I picked up from a tv programme years ago was to try testers not just on the wall but on the inside of a box (not the whole thing, just two sides which meet in a corner, so you can see what it's like in shadow.)

Genius. I tend to paint testers on paper and move them around but hadn’t heard of the box trick. Thanks.

@DottyWott

What is the pink colour? I love it!

Our kitchen is really quite similar and it is effectively purple Grin We have one wall in Brassica and the others in Peignoir. It's absolutely gorgeous and not too dark at all.

I would go with a green colour scheme. If you are worried a lot of dark green might not work in a north facing room you could consider painting the ceiling the darkest colour. I like the icecream colour ideas as well.

@Bluesheep8 thanks it’s valspar eraser pink

@DottyWott

Thank you, I'm going to have a look at that - it's beautiful.

OP sorry to hijack but I've a similar dilemma!

I also have cream cabinets (gloss), creamy beige stone effect tiled floor, and a stone coloured laminate & splashbacks. I need to inject a bit of colour, but it's not as big as OP's kitchen diner, but has a lot of natural light.

I like the idea of an ice cream palette. There isn't a huge amount of wallspace to cover due to cupboards and windows, so I'm not sure about using two colours. Suggestions very welcome. I do like the F&B pink ground suggested earlier but wonder if with the stone floor etc that might be too samey?
