To be peed off with estate agents?

We are looking to purchase our forever home before baby no.3 makes an appearance. We found the perfect house, large rear garden, reasonably priced a couple of weeks ago, with the intent of putting in an offer after viewing.
I left emails to request viewings, left messages, spoke to not 1, but 3 different agents who said they would contact vendor to arrange a viewing and said it’s had offers, but none have been accepted and not one got back to me. Finally got through again this evening, to be told by a 4th agent it apparently sold weeks ago and they’re awaiting a survey?! Is it me or is it dodgy af! You can’t possibly tell me the 3 agents didn’t know it was currently sold subject to contract?! It’s still on all the websites as available, as well including their own! I’m so annoyed at their customer service!

No, and there's no reason you should It doesn't alter the fact that the buyer is not the EA's customer.

It’s all so bizarre. A few weeks ago, I offered full asking price for one property and the estate agent didn’t even bother to reply. I thought they were legally obliged to inform the vendor?

I phoned a different agent today, to book a viewing. The agent wasn’t keen to let me see the property, but kept badgering me to see (yet another) mortgage advisor.

If I can’t find a property to buy, I won’t be selling mine.
If I can’t find a property to buy, how do you think you’re going to sell me a mortgage?

They will regret being such arseholes when the market isn't so hot. I had one who was rude I offered over the asking price it wasn't by a lot 1k but he went that won't be enough and hung up pompous twat.

Disagree. The seller is the agent’s client. The buyers are the seller’s, and therefore the agent’s, customers.

When I was buying my house I had to contact the agents when the listing reappeared on Rightmove (twice!) despite a condition of my offer being that the listing was taken down.
I think there’s some kind of algorithm that benefit them to have more houses listed on Rightmove, and also if they can drum up interest in houses that aren’t actually available, at least they can get contact details of potential buyers for other properties. I’m sure this won’t be the only weird or frustrating agent behaviour you come across!

Yes @burritofan, fully agree with you on that!

MerryDecembermas · 05/06/2021 07:59

You have to be quite aggressive if you are serious about moving. Ring them weekly or every 2 days asking what's come in that meets your criteria.

If you don't yet have a buyer in place on your own property then that must be your priority. No one will take you seriously without either cash or SSTC on your own property.

Update!
The note worked! They called us and we’ve arranged a viewing for tomorrow woohoooo! Thanks to all who suggested. Fingers crossed it’s even better in person! X

Just read the rest of the thread, no none of that is acceptable, even allowing for some human error or being busier. Glad you've managed to sort it with the seller... clearly it's still for sale then!
