Its mot made of brick or wood, it seems ro be some sort of concrete or plaster type material.

Ive ordered some shed paint from Wikes but now worried that its the wrong type pf paint.

I know the roof is asbestos and I wont be touching that.

I'm not sure - but as you know it's not wood best use masonry paint?

PigletJohn · 02/06/2021 17:02

I can't make it out from your pic but it might be sectional concrete. Please take some pics of the inside. It might have ribs and be bolted together.

Or perhaps it is made of rendered blocks. The inside will show.

How thick are the walls?

AlmostSummer21 · 02/06/2021 17:05

Looks like sheets of concrete.

But had you noticed someone's pinched half of it?

FurierTransform · 02/06/2021 18:08

Looks like cement rendered -something- so you want masonry paint.

I don't see any sign of it being a sectional building, I think it is rendered blockwork. How thick are the walls?

Masonry paint is the correct thing, although the shed has been treated with fence stain (which leaves a water-repellent waxy film) it will not adhere.

I don't know how to check. I suppose a waxy film would rub off on a rag with white spirit.

White and Magnolia are the cheapest paint colours, you will sometimes find a few other standard ones on the shelf. Dulux and Sandtex are good brands. It is surprisingly expensive, especially if you order a non-standard colour.

@PigletJohn thanks. The walls dont feek very thick - may a few cm.

Oh no - i hadnt realised that it might have been paintef with woodstain, i think you are right 🙁. Will it be ok to paint on top of it using masonry paint?

I don't think it will stick

if you can lay your hands on a presure washer you can prbably blast it off.

are the walls about 10cm thick?

mrscoxaools · 05/06/2021 10:24

@PigletJohn - could op prime it with a coat of PVA or similar so the masonry paint would stick?

PigletJohn · 05/06/2021 11:03

nonononononononono

PVA is a water soluble glue. It turns to sludge when damp, and washes off when wet.

Masonry paint contains water.

Sheds are exposed to rain.

There are still a few surviving builders and plasterers who recommend glue as a primer, but most have been killed by angry painters.
