Fitting a roller blind

No good at DIY and I have bought one with stick on brackets so I don't have to drill. How hard is it to cut through the pole? I've read up on YouTube and they make it look easy but I am not very strong. I have a very old hacksaw - would it be better to buy a new one?

i think a lot of the tubes are just made of stiff cardboard - like a stronger version of a toilet roll inner.
You probably could cut it with an old hacksaw (I managed one with a bread knife once!), but I would recommend getting a new hacksaw blade to try to get the neatest, cleanest edge possible.

It's definitely metal. I think a bread knife might be sharper than the hacksaw I found in the garage!

I could cry with frustration.
The tube was such thick metal that I went through three hacksaw blades , ended up with a jagged edge and then the thing you pull didn't work.
Does anyone know where you can buy a blind with a cardboard inner tube?

Made to measure from Blinds to Go. Excellent quality & not expensive.

3 hacksaw blades? Must have been made from titanium

ILoveShula · 04/06/2021 10:50

Why don't youu get a wooden pole the diameter of the metal tube and swap them.

Kyph · 04/06/2021 10:54

@ILoveShula that's a good idea, although I don't think the mounting bracket would fit as it slots into the hollow of the titanium tube

How about a plastic pipe from DIY plumbing section or a strong cardboard tube, or even a bamboo pole?

ILoveShula · 04/06/2021 13:11

Or even a copper pipe. You could ask the store to cut it to the right length.

i would imagine you'd need a large dia copper pipe. 75mm x 1000mm length of copper pipe is going to be about £80-£90. Cheaper to buy a made to measure blind
Lordamighty · 04/06/2021 16:44

You just need a decent hacksaw & not the cheapest one possible from the DIY shop. You also need a file to smooth off the cut end as it can be very jagged.

Lordamighty · 04/06/2021 16:45

*A proper file for metal

Bluntness100 · 04/06/2021 16:46

I think it’s better to just get one made to measure.

ILoveShula · 04/06/2021 16:48

Oh yeah. Hadn't thought of cost as it's just the sort of thing I have in my huge pile of Might Come in Handy stuff

I've replaced blinds but I use the tube and fitting from the old one and attach the fabric bit.

Coud you ask around on freebie sites if

NotMeNoNo · 04/06/2021 19:52

Have you got a pic? Is the tube distorted?
The end fitting should still go in.
