Hi everyone, I'm looking for a navy outdoor paint suitable for shed doors.
I can't seem to find one so thought I'd ask on here.
Thanks in advance.

Wilko have one called Oxford blue exterior gloss which looks navyish depends on your budget as I am sure Farrow and Ball will do one also

I would get a tester if you can as paint always looks lighter outdoors, depends how dark a navy you want

Thank you for your reply - I spotted the Oxford blue one but I'm a decorating rookie and wasn't sure if I could use gloss on shed doors or not.
A tester is a good idea I've got a wilko near me. Thank you

What are the doors made of? You may need a suitable primer/undercoat.

raeray · 29/05/2021 22:19

They're are wood (like fence panel type wood)

A VeniVidiWeeWee says you may need a primer/undercoat, are your doors bare wood, Wilko will also sell this, Paint for outside is usually called exterior gloss or satin for wood and metal for wooden outside doors.

If they are shed like doors made of shed wood then you will need fence paint not exterior gloss.

RedRiverShore · 29/05/2021 22:32

Ah, that's why you are struggling to get navy as you need fence paint which generally comes in lighter colours

SavannahLands · 29/05/2021 22:41

You would be better using a wood preservative such as Sadolin or Fencelife which come in several colours and allow the wood to naturally breathe and give better protection. Gloss paint is lightly to Blister in the heat and finally flake off. We have used the Blue Sadolin ourselves on a garden Arch a few years ago, it’s not a true dark Navy though, it’s more a Deep Sea kind of Blue/Green.

Cuprinol Garden Shades are excellent and on offer in Wickes and B and Q

Don’t use gloss on anything!!!

Your best bet is Eggshell for exterior wood from farrow and ball. We have it on all external wood. So large garage and flat which is sawn timber, two summer houses, all fencing and all windows and doors. It lasts for years and doesn’t fade. You will need undercoat and good prep but after that, eggshell is bomb proof. Far easier to use than gloss.

The stain products mentioned above do preserve the wood but dark navy will fade. We had black Sadolin and in 5 years it was awful. The eggshell is vastly superior.

Knew this was the place to ask!
Thanks everyone.

If its bare wood I would look at Brouns. Never actually used it before but have been researching wood paint for a good week now and that is going to be my final choice. Its old fashioned Linseed paint so never needs repainting. Just condition with linseed oil once every couple of years.
