Renovation Luxuries

We're in the middle of a full house renovation and I'm stuck for ideas!

Can you tell me what luxuries/must haves you'd put in your house if you were ripping it apart?

Thanks!Smile

We're about to rip ours apart. My list so far is:

• Miele appliances (budget permitting)
• Wall lights on either side of the beds
• Water softener
• Running electric cabling for an car charging outlet
• Running electric cabling into the garden for festoon lights
• Running pipes into the front garden for a tap (muddy boots/ shoes!)
• Sockets with USB or USB-C outlets
• Underfloor heating in the bathrooms

Self cleaning oven, an amazing solution to sort and store all the recycling, splash board in showers not grout that goes mouldy, luxury vinyl and wood floors downstairs as I hate cold hard tiles where everything you drop smashes to smithereens. Big utility with Separate washer and dryer and lots of air drying space eg a long rail above. Somewhere convenient to store the hoover/mop/broom. More built in cupboards than you think.

Ginger1982 · 26/05/2021 22:12

Not so much ripping apart but we have done some renovations recently and our biggest bonus has been the instant boiling water tap!

Ginger1982 · 26/05/2021 22:13

Oh and a pop up socket in the kitchen island with USB ports and plug points.

sst1234 · 26/05/2021 22:19

Walk in wardrobes and ensuites to at least 2 bedrooms
Utility room large enough to sort all laundry including ironing
Additional hob in utility so all strong smelling food can be cooked away from main kitchen/living space
Built in coffee machine
Ceiling to floor windows to any bedrooms that are at the back of the house, a balcony if not facing other houses
Underfloor heating
Separate cloak room/cupboard (aside from downstairs WC)
Pantry

FurierTransform · 26/05/2021 22:21

A proper split air conditioning system in the living area & at least the master bedroom.

Livingintheclouds · 26/05/2021 22:32

Quooker boiling water tap. Crittal doors and windows in extension. Wood floors throughout ground floor. Gas fire in living room. Ground floor loo. Add bath to loft en suite. Built in wardrobes. Built in storage and shelves in livingroom.

LondonMiss · 26/05/2021 22:35

Under the stairs cuboard like with a full door!! Done it in 2 houses now it’s soo much better!!

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/05/2021 23:09

Built in kitchen wine cooler. Washing machine in the bathroom. A Juliet balcony from the main bedroom. Installed air conditioning throughout - we couldn’t have it when we half-renovated as would have been a proper structural job to duct it so only have one unit in the bedroom.

We did go for USB sockets in every room, a socket in the bathroom (who wants to dry their hair in the bedroom??) and an all singing all dancing built in microwave, and I’m so glad about all three. We took out the en-suite to the main bedroom because I think they’re a bit gross and have a dressing room instead.

gelatodipistacchio · 26/05/2021 23:13

@ComtesseDeSpair I thought a socket in the bathroom was illegal?

I second the suggestions of storage, storage, storage. It's something that English homes are sorely lacking.

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/05/2021 23:16

@gelatodipistacchio - ours is more than three metres from a water source, which fitter said was within regs. I suspect that due to most UK bathrooms being in the small side so that not being possible is why most don’t have sockets.

SeaToSki · 26/05/2021 23:19

Pantry off the kitchen
Laundry room off the utility room
Outdoor power and water
Induction hob
Warming drawer
Arrange the master bedroom so the bed faces the windows and so when you walk in the door you cant see the bed
Separate shower and tub in the master
Insinkerator
Whole house ac and under floor heating
Really good ethernet network and wifi spots
Soft close toilet seats and cupboard doors and drawers
Smart door locks, light switches, smoke detectors and thermostats

BarkingUpTheWrongRoseBush · 26/05/2021 23:20

@LondonMiss can’t picture what you mean?

We’re getting a dog shower outside with a hot tap.

LondonMiss · 26/05/2021 23:28

The door you can see straight on goes u see my stairs! No little tiny cuboard!

Good thread.
Low lights on motion sensors in the ensuite for those nighttime wees but not connected to the extractor fan.
Dual fuel towel radiators so you can dry your towels in summer
Walk-in dressing rooms with tons of storage

AvoidingPandaEyes · 27/05/2021 00:27

More sockets than you ever think you will need
Well planned utility with cupboards that go up to the ceiling
Walk in dressing rooms with glass fronted cabinets (otherwise lots of dust on your clothes)

user1471528245 · 27/05/2021 00:56

Did it, got the T-shirt
Water fed Underfloor heating upstairs and down, it’s the best thing ever
Wall hanging toilets, much easier to keep the floor clean
Cinema room, it’s only big enough for a single sofa and an 87” screen but so worth the effort and it keeps gaming away from the main living room

AvoidingPandaEyes · 28/05/2021 13:49

Having had a Facebook ad pop up, I am reminded that when we change our kitchen, I would like pivot and slide doors like Hawa Concepta so I can have useable appliances set up for use inside a cupboard rather than having to move things out onto the island (we have a wall of floor to ceiling cupboards and a large island).

I’d also need a Quooker tap so I can get rid of the kettle.

PragmaticWench · 28/05/2021 14:52

I'd like quooker tap.

We've put in:
Wall lights either side of our bed and guest bed.
Lighting circuits controlled from each doorway into a room, including lamps, all with dimmer switches.
Hot and cold outside tap (dog washing)
USB points in all plug sockets.
Car charging port wired in for a future electric vehicle.
Tiny downlights on motion sensors for the bathrooms at night.

CasperGutman · 28/05/2021 22:10

Two dishwashers.

Hot and cold outside tap (dog washing)
What a cool idea! Being an owner of a chunky fluff monster, I'd certainly opt for that. Is it actually do-able? I mean is it possible to have an outdoor hot water tap? I guess it'll actually has to be a mixer tap otherwise the pooch will get scalded. Hmm Thermostatic outdoor mixer tap - sounds really luxurious Grin

BarkingUpTheWrongRoseBush · 29/05/2021 06:34

Dog shower I’m thinking of this one www.muckypupsdogshowers.co.uk/product-page/dog-shower

Yes it's possible - we've had an outdoor hot water tap for 12 years

NoIdeasForWittyNickname · 29/05/2021 21:47

It's definitely going onto my "dream house" list! Smile

Twizbe · 29/05/2021 22:11

Underfloor heating. I'm so pleased we got it in our kitchen / living room and our en-suite.

We upgraded on our en suite as well. A shower that actually fits my husband.

Don't get USB sockets. Our electrician told us they are a total waste of money as they become obsolete quickly. The standard 3 pin plug is more of a constant.

My biggest luxury though was an utility room. I love it
