Should I complain about my bathroom fitting?

I've paid £1500 to have a new bath, shower screen and sink fitted. A new shower hose and pvc cladding fitted on the walls.

I know that's a cheaper price. But the finish isn't great. There's a bit of silicone that wasn't smoothed out, some of the silicone is on the cladding and alot of the cladding is jagged.

I haven't paid the final bill yet. I was thinking of asking the fitter to come back and put some bits right. Am I expecting too much?

Thank you all. I sent some photos and he's coming back tomorrow.

You must have known it was too cheap quote. What did you expect?

TheQueef · 26/05/2021 10:53

Good he's coming back, hope he's ready to finish it and not try fobbing you off. Smile

I would make my husband do that again if we were diying it.

motheroreily · 26/05/2021 11:30

I had 2 other quotes which were in the same range. So it wasn't significantly cheaper.

I should think OP expected work that was fit for purpose and not finished to the standard of a 5 year old.

Christ, he was paid £700 for 4 days work (which was supposed to be 2/3, although not sure if he stuck to original quote), not sent home with a packet of pork scratchings and a lollipop Hmm

Was his name Arthur, Arthur Job?

Hoppinggreen · 26/05/2021 20:33

I have wall panels that were fitted last week, they look nothing like that.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a cheap job or not, they should do it properly

motheroreily · 30/05/2021 14:57

OK. He came back and finished the caulking but it's still untidy. I think the issue (as well as the caulking mess which I can tidy up) is that the panels are jagged and not cut straight. I'll ask the plumber how he thinks it can be resolved.

The caulking has hidden some of the jaggedness but it's still visible

It looks awful Confused

If his visible work is that shoddy then I'd be really worried about how water tight that new bath is...

goingtotown · 30/05/2021 15:13

It’s still a rough job.
The panels need replacing, it looks like he cut them with a bread knife. It will never be done to an acceptable standard he’s not capable. You need someone to do a proper job. Hope you haven’t paid him.

Doughnut100 · 30/05/2021 15:36

Yup he clearly doesn't have the skills. He will keep making it worse. You need someone else. Sorry it's so horrible to be in this position, I've been there.

Hawkins001 · 30/05/2021 16:06

I'm certainly not a diy professional, even I would not leave those issues

hellcatspangle · 30/05/2021 16:37

That's a total dog's dinner, I honestly think with the right tools I could do better myself. He's totally buggered up that panelling, what did he use to cut it?

motheroreily · 30/05/2021 23:02

I think I could've done better with the right tools too Sad. Just by cutting them straight and to the more even lengths.

I haven't paid the final bill yet. I've asked him what he thinks should happen and sent photos. I was a bit direct. I feel bad because he was so nice but maybe that's what stops other people questioning him

How did you find this fitter? Looks like he’s never done this before!
