Testing for legionella

Hi there everyone

My house has been empty at least since 2017. I'm wondering whether I should test for legionnaires, or is that just a silly notion?

Has anyone done it? If so, how?

Has the water system been drained down during the vacant period, OP? If so, there will have been no stagnant water where Legionella can thrive.
I have a shower room that is only used when I have visitors, so during lockdown was not touched for months. I just pour boiling water into the shower drain periodically, run the shower head scalding hot, directly into the drain, and then put disinfectant into the drain sump.
If you leave your taps running for a while with the door shut, then disinfect all the drains/plugholes etc, it is unlikely you would have a problem.
Interestingly, a few years ago, drivers with air con in their cars were shown to have a high incidence of Legionella antibodies- presumably the air con gets colonised. But we didn’t see huge numbers of Legionella pneumonia patients as a result.
You are probably worrying needlessly, unless you are immunocompromised.
