Kids bedroom tips

I'm just about to decorate/redo my kids' bedrooms and I'm looking for any tips....do you have anything in your kids' bedrooms which is great/helpful/you love...?

I have Dd(5) and ds(7) and I would prefer that the bedrooms are fit for a good few years and I think they'd both love to feel they are pretty 'grown up'.

Ds currently has a cabin bed but we hate it so will be getting normal beds for them both, perhaps with storage underneath.

Oh...and I love storage...currently toys are mainly downstairs but I'd like to be able to transfer some of those into their bedroom..

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Link won't bloody post but we have similar to the very mico mid sleeper with storage. VERY handy

We got a blackout blind with a great pattern, it is fab as it keeps the room dark and cooler in summer and it will grow up with my DD.

If they don't already have one, a small desk and chair, a laundry bag, are helpful.

Also my DD is a huge fan of her Philips Hue lights which we can programme to turn off at a particular time meaning now she is 10 we can leave her reading in bed with a bright light, then the light is programmed to dim so she can fall asleep, and finally it turns itself off.

Last but not least, if the kids are going to be in those rooms beyond the age of about 9 or 10, put in a plug socket behind the desk with couple of USB charging points. Absolutely invaluable.

Depending on what kind of door they have, put a hook halfway down so the child can reach their dressing gown / hoodie / bag without having to ask you!

Don't do any kind of theme like dinosaurs or fairies and definitely don't paint your DDs room pink if you want the decor to have any longevity. Our kids rooms have neutral flooring and white walls. Everything else is bright colours in abstract designs but a limited palette but their stuff adds (lots!) more colour.

Use the more durable paint that can be wiped down when they put sticky hands or wipe bogeys on the wall.

Mine have ikea Kallax storage and an IKEA Billy Bookcase which stores and holds a good amount.
