Is there such a thing as a kitchen design consultant?

Someone who will help me design a kitchen and know where to find the various things I want in it.

I like this unit from one shop, and that unit from another shop. I cannot find what I want in one place and need an accurate design to see how to fit what I want in.

They all say 'free design service!' but the designers make it quite clear that they don't want to do the design if you're not ready to buy. Fair enough, but how do you choose which company to buy from if you cannot compare quotes and designs?

If they say it's a no obligation design service then that's what it is, but they may be reluctant to give you those designs if they suspect you are just going to buy elsewhere.
But you can figure out how many units you need and compare based on that. There will be some details that will adjust the final amount but you'd know enough to compare.

It sounds like you need to hire an interior designer or someone who can make bespoke kitchens. That is what we're doing.

Contact one plan on Houzz, this is exactly what she (Karen) does.

Is she in the UK?

Yes I hired one for about £200. He was excellent. Came to our house, measured kitchen, chatted to us about what we wanted, made suggestions and then followed up with design. We were able to take it into any shop. The designs offered by shops were appalling. We had spent £50k extending the kitchen and one “designer” designed a kitchen smaller than the previous one!
