DIY kitchens versus Units online or similar

How does Units Online compare to DIY kitchens? Do they have any flexibility on sizes ordered ie non standard width/height? Otherwise any other options of suppliers for flexible sizing ideally inframe but at competitive pricing. Thanks

Didn't have non-standard sizes, but have used both DIY Kitchens and Units Online - would recommend both. UOL were better in terms of customer service probably because we used their design service too and felt like we had a one to one service with one of their employees, nothing was too much trouble. Having said that, it was all relatively straightforward with DIYK too, except I had missed off one decorative panel and had to wait a while for that to come. Quality of kitchens very good for both - better than their price point and superior to high street / trade offerings.

Do you need a whole non standard kitchen or just a few units for awkward gaps?

NotMeNoNo · 20/05/2021 14:14

Schuller kitchens (available at various retailers) have a choice of worktop heights.
For non standard units you may need a non standard door so you will be limited to a supplier who make their own doors, such as the DIY kitchens Innova ranage IIRC.

I've used DIY Kitchens and HMKOC. DIY Kitchens I think are primarily standard sizes though there are quite a few standard sizes to choose from.

HMKOC is completely made for you so you specify the size to the mm. I'm really pleased with my HMKOC kitchen, it feels very solid and good quality.

I dont think schuller do inframe thank you. Any other options for inframe. Not keen on DIY, other than for price as hinges not visible. Currently comparing unitsonline and HMKOC. Any other recommendations or comments on comparision? Thanks

You could try British Standard? Otherwise get a design drawn up and then find a decent joiner to make it for you (you would have to paint it or get it sprayed probably)

Thank you. Very happy to have a joiner and they paint and fit it ourselves but no idea how to find a joiner. Any recommendations/suggestions?

I would ask on your local Facebook community page. Can be dangerous as most just recommend their friends, but there are occasionally some real gems! Otherwise, try one of your local kitchen fitting companies as they may have connections.

Have you got a design already?
Sounds like you have a non-standard/complicated situation so you would need quite a detailed design/drawings for a joiner to build the cabinets, for example they might be able to build them into an overall frame like wardrobes instead of individual cabinets, you would still need to agree on the materials and type of finish. That's an extra level of design and specification over just choosing standard units from a catalogue/website. But of course you could then get exactly what you want.
Apologies if I'm stating the obvious - inframe/bespoke kitchens are normally on the expensive side due to the extra work involved.

Also if visible hinges is the only thing stopping you, it's possible to convert the units by removing the bulky spring hinge and adding some hinges and magnetic catches. You might even be able to get the doors un-drilled so no redundant hole in the back.
