Hi
Where are the nicest places to live in Darlington. Preferably a Victorian street with parks nearby and an easy walk into town?

I live in Altrincham currently and we're considering relocating to Darlington so any tips or thoughts about it as a place to live, amenities, schools etc would be very gratefully appreciated.
Cheers

Hi, perhaps try looking at the area around Cleveland Avenue and Coniscliffe Road/ Cockerton/ the Denes area some really lovely properties around there and plenty of local facilities with easy access into town. Abbey Road and Holy Family primary schools are in the same area and both well regarded by friends who use them. Carmel (secondary) a very good school too. So if you are thinking longer term areas within those catchments may be good starting point. Darlington is a good town , a growing selection of independents and a good market, lots of green spaces with lovely housing. Easily accessible to Newcastle/metro centre (35-40mins) for more entertainment / shopping facilities.

Agree with the poster above. What is your price range? According to a recent poll the most desirable areas are Blackwell, Mowden, Cockerton area. There are some lovely villages around. Mowden isn't Victorian though. The houses closer to town are bigger and more what you are looking for.

I love living in Darlington.

St Augustines is better than Holy Family for Catholics. Abbey and Mowden are the best secular primary schools. Carmel is an excellent Catholic secondary, Hummersknott is secular and OK (rubbish headmaster though) but the QE 6th form college is good.

If buying a house the west end is the 'best' area which is a mix of Victorian, Edwardian and 1930s housing. That's the triangle below Woodlands Road (although as above the Denes is a nice area just out of the west end but isn't so good for school catchment, I wouldn't buy in Cockerton though), west of Stanhope Road and Grange Road and East of Carmel Road (west of Carmel Road is Mowden which is a very nice area but late 20th century housing so maybe not to your taste) The Victorian terraces are near the town centre but the majority don't have gardens, just back yards. Everything in the west end is an easy and pleasant walk to town, Mowden is a bit further.

Parks wise there is Stanhope Park near town which is more of a large square and full of 6th form students (it's next to the college), there's the Denes to the north which has tennis courts and a couple of play areas, Green park to the south which has a play area and a good hill for sledging, and South Park near Grange Road which is the largest park in town with most amenities. There are also lots of walks by the Tees including one from Broken Scar Picnic Area to Blackwell.

I suspect you'll find it's slightly cheaper than Altrincham!

Hey nothing wrong with Cockerton I grew up there and have just moved back! Great facilities.

But then you say the Denes is fine. Denes is cockerton unless you mean the other side near Branksome then you have a point.
The village part is nice though.
