Torn between having an induction hob with built in extract or a recycling wall extract.
The hob is on a run of lower units with shelf ideally above so we cant have a ceiling extract as impeded by the shelf so would need a wall mounted one - we have no ducting out. On looking closer th this option to get a a sleek looking extra hood will be £1400 and induction hob 5 zone about £750 to get a down draft inception which means no ugly extract required will be £2200 so similar to the other 2 added together. However i'm a keen cook so not sure if losing a zone on the induction hob is worth it for the aesthetics. Ive attached pics of the 2 I'm considering

The bora ones are meant to be amazing.

Hobs with down draft extraction are great. And you having it recirculate or will it extract outside. If you are having outside extraction you will loose the cupboard under the hob as the extraction unit is quite large. If you are having it recirculate the extraction won’t be as good.

Thank you it will be recirculating I’m afraid. I’ve heard that the wall style recirculating are even worse than the down draft ones. I think bora is the main brand but can’t find one with good zone size !

I'm having a similar dilemma. I don't want to give up the 5th zone for a built in extraction, we've decided to go with a 5 zone hob with one of the pop up down draft extractors behind... we are having this elica one . ... also attached is the built in extractor hob we were considering (pictures from internet.. not my kitchen.. that's not been fitted yet!)

You should look at elica or Siemens.

Oh wow I've not seen these before! What are they like to keep clean whilst cooking and are filrers required and super expensive? Does anyone have this type of hob and could advise?

I’ve a bora. It ducts out via a pipe that goes quite a way under all the adjacent cupboards. I also have the cupboard under it. Lost about 6 inches only from the top and a few inches at the back.

You don’t need filters. There is a great big round metal filter in the hole (mine is like the one with the round hole). You pull it out and put it in the dishwasher. Quick wipe of the hole and done.

A friend has a bora one. It’s kinda cool; but the cupboard/drawer below smells a bit greasy which surprised me.

But as for space, I have a 4/5 zone 80 cm Neff induction (with flex zone on one side). I use pretty much all of it on a regular basis.

@MaryGubbins do you think the extract is effective?

I’ve just discovered the X plus bora which is 86cm wide and no cooking zones as such so can fit 5 pans on - much more cooking space than the regular - it’s about £1k more but we’re so over budget now that I’m tempted as feel I won’t have enough space on the 4 zone. Sadly i can’t have the pop up extract as work top not deep enough as don’t want it on my island which I’m trying to keep clear as a dining space and prep space. I think bora lead the way in this style of extract I think it’s the quietest too from reviews I’ve read

We have a bora pure which extracts out and it is great. There are no dirty smells and I am very happy with the cooking space. It is very easy to clean and the filter just gets put in the dishwasher once a week.

The only disadvantage I can see over my old gas hob is that I can't use a wok on the induction.

It’s a bora basic. Really strong extraction. No greasy smell in the drawer below.

I have the elica one pictured and it's not great imo tbh - but that could be because I wasn't able to have it vented out... it's circulating instead

Looks sleek and blends in with my kitchen but when I move, I wouldn't get again (unless I could definitely have vented out)

To add, my Elica is fitted with a 5 zone hob gas!

Omg do people really spend this much on a hob that ruins your drawers under it?

Report
themummyway · 19/05/2021 19:40

Hasn't ruined my drawers at all.
It's meant that my drawers aren't as deep as I would've liked and the cupboards on the other side are a little shallow
BUT it's all worked out fine. The drawers are deep enough for a range of pans and to fit my spices in. Cupboards work out well for keeping cooking bits and some vitamins.
