Wren kitchens

Avoid Avoid
We had a Wren kitchen fitted 5 years ago choosing 2 different colours. Some of the units in one particular colour has changed colour but not all so now they looked mismatched. I contacted Wrens who agreed this should not happen and confirmed we are covered under their 25 year guarantee (for the affected units only not the whole kitchen. . So far so good, but this is where it all goes wrong. We are happy to replace just the affected units with another colour that will match the existing cream cupboards. Wren have informed me that as they no longer make the original colour - they will not be able to replace them with another colour even though they still do the same range. They have offered me a partial refund less depreciation value of £1400.
I have just had a quote from them to replace the units with another colour from the same range of £5772. Their guarantee is worthless

They are appauling. Got quoted 24k for our tiny kitchen. Then the kitchen designer proceeded to hound me for weeks at the time I was heavily pregnant with my first baby and stressed to hell. Went to B&Q in the end and got a kitchen for just under 5k including installation.

Does it say anything about this situation in the terms and conditions of their warranty? I would argue that they have to replace them like for like and if they are unable to it is clearly their responsibility to replace all the units. It is not reasonable for them to expect anyone who pays ‘x’ amount for a kitchen to end up with mismatched units 5 years later due to a manufacturing fault.

Irrespective of Wren’s position, you also have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. They have a legal responsibility to make good, particularly since they’ve already acknowledged they are at fault.

Their warranty terms and conditions are vague however they have confirmed I am covered under the warranty as in their words "they would not expect this to happen". If they still manufactured this exact colour they would have replaced them however as they do not they will not replace with another colour but will only offer this partial refund less depreciation.

They need to replace all the doors. That or they need to refund you for all the doors so you can source a suitable replacement, which matches. I would go back to them and say you’re not happy with their offer, aside from the warranty they have obligations under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and you’re happy to write to their lawyers at this point if easier. I really hate bad customer service though, you might prefer a less contentious route!

I thought I had a 25 year warranty and when my doors delaminated after 5 years this is what Wren sent…..

“Your kitchen cabinets, do, have a 25-year warranty, however, this does not include items such as decors, doors, hinges, etc.

This is also advised on our website, that the warranty does relate to the cabinets and if you are unsure what this means, to clarify with an advisor. I will attach this below for you.

The warranty on all of our doors, has always been 10-years, hence why this is what we would work out depreciation for.”

I would have taken this further for 2 reasons. The first being your doors are still covered under the 10 year warranty and the second being they've used "hence why" together in a sentence.

Lionpops · 11/03/2023 09:24

I am taking further but I just wanted to make people aware that their doors are not covered for 25 years. Wren are not transparent.

I would suggest that you get advice 8n respect of the Consumer Protection Act. 5 years for a kitchen isn't reasonable and you don't need to rely on a warranty with typical exclusions as you have sound

Very happy with my Wren kitchen.

You can get kitchen cupboards professionally resprayed - why not get a quote for how much this would be and see if the offer from wicks would cover it or if not go back to them with the quote and ask them to cover the cost?

Lionpops · 14/03/2023 06:54

I have got 2 quotes and they won’t up their compensation to cover. Plus I have to pay for fitting on top.

I have issued section 75. It seems that Wren Kitchens are infamous for delaminating. There are 2 Wren Disaster facebook pages…. Anyone considering a Wren kitchen look there first.

It will get sorted just a very stressful process.

So was I until the laminate came away and I had to deal with Wrens customer service.
