We are extending and I have wanted ikea carcusses from the beginning because we don't need a service void and losing it (plus the shorter plinth) makes a huge difference to size of cupboards/drawers.

The less deep tall units are also a perfect size for our larder wall.

I had planned to have bespoke doors in a sage green or blue grey type colour. But, as I'm sure is not a surprise to many, the extension is painfully expensive and we are having to make compromises.

So I am trying to decide if we can make any of the ikea door fronts work (alongside their plain white quartz worktop).

It is a 60 sqm open plan room, dining room one end, then kitchen, then a sitting area.

I had always wanted shaker so am particularly interested in the black or grey lerhyttan, white axstad or white savedal or the bodarp but would love to see anyones photos (i absolutely suck at visualising anything so rely on pinterest etc).

Please show off your kitchens (or any ikea inspiration you've found). Thank you!

I can't help on the photo front I'm afraid but am in a very similar situation to yours, looking at an IKEA kitchen with (I hope!) fancy fronts. However my plan B is the Lerhyttan range which has a solid wood frame so to my mind looks loads better than their other shaker ranges.

I went to their kitchen planning store in London on the first day the shops opened up again (!) and had a good look at the black Lerhyttan set they have there, it looks pretty good in the flesh (so to speak).

Have you tried Instagram for pictures of it in people's homes? This came up when I searched just now, for example: https://www.instagram.com/p/CBIRyRoAvob/?igshid=12l1zrfhvxr7h

This is the estate agent's photo of the house we just bought. It's a lot less orange in real life. The quality is Ok, not amazing but not bad.

I'm in the same position as you with planning/had planned an IKEA kitchen with bespoke doors. In reality I can't afford them now so I'm quite keen on Lerhyttan as they are wood so could be sanded and painted in the future. Likely to be a distant future when my soul is healed after the build...

Actually that reminds me - with no service void do you need to put the pipes nearer to the floor with IKEA kitchens?

bravotango · 11/05/2021 08:26

Could you paint the kitchen prior to assembly?

Worktop bought elsewhere but all the carcasses and fronts are IKEA. Fitter did not stop complaining about them but I love the look. I have the drawers on the base units, so much easier than cupboards. Don't get the under sink bins, the bags are hard to find.

Sorry for the delay. Our build suddenly got mental and then I had my Ikea appointment.

@Zinnia thanks so much for the Instagram suggestion, I hadn't thought of it as I never use it and searching Lerhyttan on Pinterest mostly turns up the adverts.

Anyway, I have narrowed it down to the white Axstad or grey Lerhyttan, both are lovely doors, I just wish they came in an actual colour.

I am struggling most with worktop. Wood would look good on either but I am a slovenly so and so and have 0 interest in running behind everyone with a cloth to mop up spills immediately.

I had a look at the pure white quartz which could look good with the Lerhyttan but I think it would show every spec of dirt and streak and see earlier point about not living for housework.

I find carrrara quartz a bit fussy and would have been much more inclined if they had a calacatta style quartz.

Which led me to the marble ceramic. Bit worried that it might be a bit yellow... or that it would chip (supposed to be the most bomb proof of the lot) but had it quoted! £3.7k!!!!! For an ikea worktop! Eek!

I think I am edging towards the light grey lerhyttan and trying to hunt down a white callacatta quartz that is quite "clean' looking. I just wish it weren't grey (not because I don't like it but because I think it has become soooo popular).

My breakfast bar overhang is also too big for the quartz which is a bit annoying.

Have to say the appointment was 2 hours exceptionally well spent and I have at least chosen my appliances. I didnt think there would be much value add since I've spent the last year in and out the app and researching but I was wrong@

Hi, not about ikea, but a quick question about your back layout. I'm doing an extension and side return and will end up with a lay out like yours because I don't want a wrap around, I want the rear and right hand walls of my extension to be glass/ sliding doors to get an airy light feel, like yours.

Can I ask, are you glad you didn't fill that space in, but you instead kept the space at the side? That back extension part for me would be about 3 x 3 metres, is yours about that because I think yours looks great!

Thx! (And sorry for the hi Jack )

@Muststopeating here’s ours. The tops we bought elsewhere but they’re white acrylic.
