Gas hob + integrated extractor/decorating advice

Does this exist anywhere at all? Id really love a shelf above my hob but I have horrible chrome extractor fan up there, which is fitted snugly between the cupboards and no space at all to add wood to cover it. If I could source a gas hob with integrated ventilation then I could take out the extractor and fill the space with shelves

And if they dont exist, which I suspect from my own searching - Any advice on how I can add a shelf to this set up without it looking weird? I was thinking of painting the chrome if I can't source a different way to have an extractor fan so a painted wooden shelf in the same colour might not look too strange?

I'm doing it all on a very low budget!

Your extractor is fine.
Shelves there would become a grease/dust magnet

plus anything above the hob would get warm as well. We have untensils hanging to the side of our extractor on the wall and they often get warm if several of the hobs are on!

Maybe clad it like this to make it look better (not a budget option, I grant you).

they will also fall onto the hob

while you are leaning across the steam, flames and hot pans to grab them

the extractor should be at a height where you can't bang your head on it, therefore a shelf will be out of reeach.

Integrated hob extractors have ducting installed under the floor

You could change your extractor hood for one with a flat design, then you could put some pretty items on it like a shelf?

this sort of thing

Thanks everyone. The shelf is really for decorative items rather than things I would need to reach up and use. I like the cladding idea, I might look to see if that's feasible thank you @Changingwiththetimes and if not then @minipie idea is the next best option.

Thank you!

If it's appearance you're thinking of, you could remove the stainless chimney hood and replace it with a canopy type built into a cabinet matching the wall cabs.

It would cost some £hundreds, though.

Check the clearance required by your hob instructions . If you put something into the wrong area you could cause a fire.
