Short term accommodation leaving query

Hi

I’m in some short term accommodation whilst looking for a flat

There is no tenancy agreement. I find the landlord very intense and would feel better moving sooner rather than later. I have found the perfect 1 bed place.

However my query is at to the legality of my leaving earlier.

I pay the rent on a month by month basis, and would only have stayed 1 month when I leave (if my new place works out). I told them I’d like to stay up to 2-3 months, which would mean august.

Obviously I might be being a cf by moving out earlier than I’d said but the perfect place in walking distance of my work has come up and I really would struggle staying here much longer.

Any advice or guidance appreciated. I told them over text I’d like the dates I’d like to stay and would be giving 2 weeks notice.

Thanks so much

England? Landlord doesn't live there too? If there is no tenancy agreement just give a month's notice in line with rent date (check online for advice) and go. A month, not two weeks if you are paying monthly.

the minimum six month term in all ASTs is because no eviction proceedings can even be started before six months. (No proceedings at all at the moment). That's the landlord's problem not yours. More fool them as they probably have insurance issues, but again, not your problem.

Yes landlord lives there too. Scotland.

Sorry but does that mean if I pay rent on the 27th of the month, I have to give a months notice from then.

So I moved in 27th April, paid the rent for one month before moving in. Does this mean I have to give one months notice on the 27th May or could I give one months notice tomorrow. The thought of extending the time I stay by a further month makes me feel ill

Sorry - as you are in Scotland and the landlord shares the accommodation, the advice above probably does not apply ( why I always add the England word on the front). No idea I'm afraid!

You are only a lodger. There are much reduced rights and responsibilities for lodgers over tenants. You don’t even have a formal lodging agreement. Technically, there isn’t a single thing keeping you there. You can leave when you like. Giving a couple of weeks notice would be polite, but there is no legal come back one way or the other. (True for England, at least).
