Heat detector location

Hi,
We've just moved into our new house and we're fitting an interlinking smoke alarm system. (Fireangel connected, battery powered so we aren't having electrician fit them.

The kitchen and dining room are connected & the stairs lead off the dining room (no door) We've fitted a smoke alarm in the upstairs landing & will put one in living room (door between it & dining room/base of stairs)

Where do we put the heat detector? We don't want false alarms but obviously want to be as safe as possible without anything at the bottom of the stairs to protect our exit.
I've heard at least 1m from cooker, but do we put at bottom of stairs or just over 1m from cooker?

Thanks in advance.

At the least, one heat detector on the kitchen ceiling but not directly above the cooker, and one on the ceiling of the top landing because smoke will rise (unless you are a very smoky cook I would have thought a smoke, rather than a heat, detector)

One inside any room or other area where smoke would be contained within the room and not escape to rise inside the house until the door was on fire (e.g. a garage or a utility room, especially if it has a washer or dryer or an iron ). One on the hall ceiling to catch smoke drifting out of the downstairs rooms.

You will need a noisy alarm by, or inside, rooms where people are sleeping, especially if they are young, or a bit deaf. I have fire doors and they are very good at blocking out sound so have an extra siren on the top landing.

OOI my deaf old granny was woken by a fireman kicking her front door in and running upstairs when her garage was on fire.

I don't know how common this is, but I have known detectors triggered by vapour from deodorant sprays if the bathroom door is open.

Thanks @PigletJohn
It's a slightly odd layout-we have a bedroom downstairs with a door off the porch, then the living room. There's a door between it & the dining room/kitchen, which has the stairs going up the side wall (the walls go up to the landing, but aren't full height in the landing) where we have a smoke alarm at the top of the stairs, which is pretty much outside the bedrooms.
The utility room is in the conservatory, there's a partition wall between it & the family room (also part of conservatory) which is open to the dining room...
I'm aware we don't have a protected escape route but equally would really prefer to minimise any risk of false alarms (had one in our last house with mains interlinked and it freaked my daughter out completely!)
Downstairs bedroom is used as office with a lot of computer equipment as well.

@stressedouttumbleweed FireAngel Pro Connected FP2620W2-R (Smoke alarms) should ideally be installed in circulation areas forming part of an escape route for optimum protection. The FireAngel Pro Connected FP1720W2-R (Heat alarm) which you are installing in your kitchen/diner should be placed on the ceiling, ideally in the centre of the room. It should be at a distance no greater than 5.3m from the farthest wall, no greater than 5.3m from a door to any room in which a fire might start and no greater than 5.3m from the next heat alarm.
I understand from your original post that you, of course want to be as safe as possible at home and appear concerned about not having a unit installed at the bottom of your stairs due to the layout of your property. FireAngel Pro connected units are designed to offer you and your family the ultimate protection against Smoke and Carbon monoxide. The interlinking technology in these units means that if there was ever a smoke event anywhere in your property, every alarm on that network will activate and this gives you and your family valuable extra time to react. If your couple your existing network of units with our new and innovative Gateway device (FP1000W2-R), you will even further better the protection in your property. The Gateway unit will simply plug into your broadband router and connect to all your existing alarms once you have installed the FireAngel Connect app on your mobile device, you will be able to receive instant alerts to any alarm activity and be informed of which alarm has triggered first.
You can find more info about these products here:

If you ever want to discuss the positioning of your alarms in more detail, our team are always more than happy to help. You can reach them on 0800 141 25 61.

I own a flat in a listed building of 53 units and they have installed all flats with heat detectors on the ceiling just inside the doors to each unit. I have a smoke detector in the kitchen too.
