Sorry, this may be a long post.

We are in the process of buying a house and are almost at exchange but have one outstanding issue.
I’m wondering if anyone else has come across this before and what was the result.
Our conveyancer has asked the vendors solicitor to verify the identity of the “ owners of the house” and they say they have seen documentation but will not verify that it’s them.. they have seen land Registry document with their name on they have seen passports with their photos on and the “ owners “ have had a registered business and filed tax records at that address for several years.
This to my layman’s gut says that they do live and own the house they are selling but.......
Our solicitor has advised us not to proceed unless they remove the clause -We will not guarantee [sic] the identity..-
The vendors solicitor says they won’t as this is a common practice nowadays but I’ve not come across it before and we have bought and sold lots in the recent years..
The vendors solicitors have made numerous mistakes throughout the sales process which our guy has had to chase constantly so we aren’t convinced of their knowledge but they aren’t working for us..
Has anyone else had this on a contract and what would you do. . 🤷🏼
I’m swinging between pulling out and just going for it...I really don’t know which way to go so any advice would be great.

Get them to go to another local solicitors form with their ID and get it verified. I did this on my first purchase when my solicitors firm was not local. Cost £10.

Thank you. I have suggested this but our solicitor still insists that this isn’t enough.
Were you a buyer or seller... .?

He wants their caveat removed as I ‘think’ it means that if it’s fraud we can sue him as we have proceeded..
I don’t know anymore 🙁 but we need to exchange by this Friday...Or the whole thing falls apart
