Quick question - re bedding for house viewings

Getting PIL's house ready to sell - nothing on the beds so need to get some duvet covers. The house is painted/looks quite dark and old fashioned. Would plain white duvets "lift" the room a bit? Or should I go for a pattern on a light background?
Since I've to buy new I may as well try to make a difference!
Thanks

Depends on if the walls are patterned or plain.
I think plain white would be too clinical

I’d go for clean, fresh white.

Agree. I would go for crisp plain white as well. I'm house hunting at the moment, and it's something I've noticed really makes a difference to a room. It's very easy for patterned covers to look cheap sometimes even if they're not.

just get a plaini(ish) bedspread (that yoh like and can use in your house after)

I only buy white bedding. You can put a coloured or patterned throw and/or scatter cushions on as well if you want to brighten it up.

I definitely recommend Mandalay from Dunelm. Not pricey but lovely quality, and textured enough that it's not too plain and doesn't crease.

Simple, white. I did something similar for my grandmother's flat and this looked really nice.

I tend to go for neutral pastel colours, so a bit of personality, but not too much to scare off the potential purchasers. I'm not a big fan of pure white bedding as it never stays that way for long in our house!

Thanks for all the comments! Didn't expect so many. The beds there are a double and a small double, we have a king and singles at home so I'm not very likely to reuse the covers - hence looking for something pretty cheap but decent looking! If I get into throws and cushions I'll spend a fortune - though could bring some from our own house I suppose. I will check out the suggestions made. Dunelm could be a good shout

Could you not just Chuck some throws over the bed? More likely to reuse and no-one will know (or care) that there are no covers underneath!

Lovely white bed linen! Even a supermarket brand stuff would be ok for this purpose

Starseeking · 05/05/2021 11:26

IKEA cushion inserts are £5/10, as are cushion covers, so you don't need to spend a fortune. I also bought 4 or 5 throws from there which were less than £15 each, but did the staging job nicely.

I would be tempted to buy a king and a double set for your PIL's beds. That way you can use the king on your own bed at a later date.
The double duvet cover could be, easily, seamed to fit one of your single beds once the house is sold.

Good looking bedding can be pricey; it would be a shame to not get the use of them.
