Anyone got one of these - we are looking at a NEFF one.

Recirculators are pointless however posh the brand name. don't waste your money.

BeechTreeView · 04/05/2021 10:39

What's the alternative then?

We can't have a extractor above.

Can they put a pipe in underneath?

Why are they pointless?

can you run a duct under the floor to the outside from the Island then?

Sometimes you aren't left with a lot of choice. Ducting under our concrete floor with UFH was going to be too much of a PITA. Couldn't go through ceiling due to beams. So we recirculating it had to be and it is fine.

We'll check with the builder - in theory it should be a straight run under a suspended floor.....

We have a bora on our island which is ducted out under the floor. It works brilliantly and the extraction is really strong. We used the bora branded ducting on a 6 metre run with 2 bends.

Here is ours. The bit on the right is the new extension. The extractor was placed over the block and beam floor before the floor was screeded and underfloor heating was laid. You can see on the left where it comes up for the island.

If it's a neff you can go on their website and check how appliances should be installed; you can download the instructions. Generally speaking, extraction is better, with short straight vent pipe runs and as few bends as possible. You need the right sized vent pipe too. Too narrow, too long and too many vents result in increased fan noise. If you can't extract properly, then recycling will have to do. I can vouch that in our house recycling does work. But I clean the grease filters very regularly, I bung them in the dishwasher, and I also change the carbon filter absolute minimum 6 monthly. And we don't fry or cook smelly food often either.
