To share or not share a wall?

Advice please. Live in a semi detached. Planning an extension. Would you proceed with a shared wall or own wall on boundary?

Most websites suggest shared wall. Builders have all said, own wall. Also when building an extension should I prepare for my entire garden to be ruined? It's a long garden.

Help please!

Our adjoining neighbours have an extension which was built right up to the boundary (previous owners). We are planning one. We were told that if we were happy for ours to be the same size, and the neighbours agreed, we could also build right up to the boundary. If we wanted it to be bigger, we would need to leave a small gap.

Will you be sharing the wall?

Yes, it will become the party wall (so to speak).
