Looking at getting an old patio relaid, it's sunk in the middle so needs taking up, sorting and relaying.
We could (I think) reuse the old slabs (about 18 years, concrete formed buff coloured sandstone riven type - okay when cleaned up but need jet washing at least once a year - would a patio sealant help with that?) but am thinking if I'm paying the cost for relaying (approx £1,500/£2,000 - waiting for quote) might I as well take the hit on new materials as well.
There are other parts of hard paving around the side of the house in the same slabs. Just having a new fence replacing a hedge along side these and the gap is now noticeable larger (see picture).
Then have poured concrete paths at the front with a different slabs at the front door step. Ideally I'd like to make these paths wider and potentially add a small patio area.
Am not keen on more different materials.
I could replace everything in something new, this would be very expensive and probably not going to happen.
Looking at slabs and tiles I like the porcelain wood effect, this would make the main patio substantial different and mean I'm not trying to match what I've already got.
Then reusing the old main patio slabs at the front (laid directly on to the existing poured concrete paths - is this possible? It will raise the level, but that's actually good), for the new small patio area at the front and potentially replacing the cut slabs at the side to extend nearer to the new fence.
- Can I get slabs laid directly onto old concrete paths (all perfectly fine, not broken up or anything)?
Would need to widen so would need some groundwork at the sides.
- Are patio sealants any good? Presumably I'd have to stop jet washing to maintain the pointing.
