We are hurrying up on buying a property with is fully furnished but comes at 60 k more ( we would need no refurbishment) if we move in this property .Would just have to get it cleaned .
2nd option is 60 k less property but would need massive refurbishment ) ,carpets changed ,WC made and kitchen to be redone. Friends are advising to take the cheaper one since it would save some cost but my hubby says why to get the hassle .
What would you do ?

If the move in ready one is done to your taste and you can afford it, go for that. Do not underestimate the hassle and disruption and expense of doing up a house, especially if you have to live there at the same time. What is more likely to happen is you get used to certain things being half done and never finish it.

If all else is equal - the first, you may find that £60,000 disappears fairly swiftly when you start renovating.

Depends if it is renovated and furnished to your taste or not. If it is, then go for it.

If your husband isn't keen, things might not get done going did the cheaper option

The first if you like how it’s been finished - I wouldn’t be surprised if you spent more than £60k on the refurb!

That's going to depend on your personality entirely. I'd happily go top of my budget for a ready made house, a project does not appeal to me AT ALL. I understand buying ready made means less of an investment but I count it as an investment in my time instead ha, ie I can go straight to enjoying my home no worrying about DIY or booking trades etc. But completely understand for other people a project brings great joy, so it'll depend what it stirs in you? Dread or excitement?!

Refurbished house for me.

JackieWeaverFever · 24/04/2021 19:13

I'd take the cheaper one but I am fussy so like to pick rather than live with someone else's choices IYSWIM

It sounds like you and your husband were happy with your intended purchase until your friends started giving you their unasked for opinions.

This is a decision for you and your husband to make together. As long as you are both happy, everyone else’s opinion is irrelevant.

If the renovated property suits you, I’d go for that option. I mean from a style perspective. My friend just bought a new house that’s absolutely lovely except for the style of new kitchen. I couldn’t have paid what she paid as I don’t like the kitchen, so in her shoes I’d have preferred to do the renovation myself.

@HebbaGarbled thanks and this is exactly what has happend .Friends told us why are we buying expensive overpriced stuff ,rather we should go and buy cheap and revonate .Until today we again saw a 3 bed room in the area we have to move and then we did some calcutions and finally agreed that no we are not type who would spend our brains on getting anything refurbished . Decision has been made today finally
