Hi, husband has a potential job opportunity based in Motherwell, he needs to go and have a look first. We are very unfamiliar with Scotland and looking on Rightmove brings up a vast number of homes but with no knowledge its like finding a needle in a haystack and not knowing which haystack to look at.

In my Rightmove surfing I am very taken with this type of property www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/90684715#/,

Looking for 2 bed ideally with parking, our main home is in Midlands

Would being on the coast such as Ayr or Troon be an unrealistic commute??

Coatbridge isn’t the best of areas to be honest:

Troon is beautiful but it would take an hour at least to commute.

Uddingston and Bothwell both nice.

Do you need schools? Village/town/ what’s important?

Preswick is also lovely as a costal location. Crossford/dalserf are beautiful but more rural

letsghostdance · 22/04/2021 21:33

I would choose to live in Glasgow and commute out

Bluntness100 · 22/04/2021 21:40

Yeah you’re getting that kind of house for that money because of where it is op. I’d say Troon or Ayr is too big a commute, what’s your total budget?

What kind of area are you looking at? Town, village? What amenities?

fitflopqueen · 22/04/2021 21:59

I guess £250k tops, kids are grown so no restrictions, city centre may be good as we live rurally now, somewhere very desirable with lovely little shops and restaurants. New property could be ok if in good area and has parking. We have a dog too but She and I wouldn’t be living there full time, more like alternate weekends and husband home in between.

Used to live in Uddingston and work in Motherwell, would second other who suggest there other place may be Stathaven or Lanark if you are wanting something a bit more country .Motherwell is pretty central and easy to get to as just off the motorways.

Bluntness100 · 22/04/2021 22:15

Well there’s a few places, Newton means, milingavie, bearsden, or you could go into glasgow and get a flat with parking.

Bluntness100 · 22/04/2021 22:16

Sorry also East Kilbride is not bad,

fitflopqueen · 22/04/2021 22:59

Thanks, can do a bit of researching now

Which would be considered the best parts of Glasgow?

I am in Glasgow Southside and it's a great area I like Battlefield/Cathcart/Mount Florida but can be pricey..lots of cafes/independent shops, great sense of community...

Timperleybell · 23/04/2021 07:48

As a pp said the Southside of Glasgow has nice areas adding to the above Shawlands, Langside then through the A77 corridor to Newton Mearns is a collection of middle class suburbs with plenty of cafes etc. Its less pricy than the west end and gives easier access to the Motherwell area For a while I travelled from Shawlands to Bellshill which was fine.
On the basis of a cyclic commute home would a flat work with a dog? The area has several large parks: Queens Park, Rouken, Glen Linn park and more.
Beware of the Scottish offers over buying system which can make properties look substantially cheaper than they will sell for.

Acovic · 23/04/2021 20:35

I worked in that area for a while.

The senior staff tended to live in Glasgow and commute out or live in Strathaven or Hamilton at a push. The junior staff (like me!) commuted from Edinburgh or Glasgow (commute from Edinburgh not that great).

Motherwell itself is pretty deprived (read Deborah orr's book Motherwell to understand why!)
