My new patio has a puddle

We have replaced our garden path and the seating area at one end of it with high quality Indian stone.
Unfortunately there is a puddle. It has only rained once since the work was done, but walking through the garden at night in crocs I splashed my ankles.
One other tradesman (here for something else) said “it wil, be ice in winter so they need to fix it). A neighbour said “they won’t fix it now just drill a drainage hoe”
I’m not sure what to do. Have told builder and he has seen it. He’s sending me a bill so that would be the time to negotiate.
I dread falling out with him as reasonable small local builders are hard to find and I have lots of other work to do. But I bet he hasn’t got a puddle in his patio.....

Ask him what the best fix is, and suggest that you just pay cost of materials, & that he does it when he is doing the next job

Then you show you are reasonable, and that you are giving him more work...

Thank you.

The builder should have planned the falls so a puddle didn't happen. It's his issue to fix. Just push it back on him to sort.

...talking as a person whose partner is a builder who spent a great deal of time ensuring no water collected on our patio.

Hesontrial · 21/04/2021 10:36

Thank you teebee. It's about understanding what's reasonable for me.

That will be 'grave subsidence'. It is the natural process caused by loosened soil settling into place over a newly dug grave...

....I'm not mumsnet enough to get that reference I don't think....

It's not fit for purpose is it, tell him you want it rectified (at his cost nor yours).

grave subsidence - there seems to be a quite a number of MNers who suggest that one should bury the OH under a patio if they have been up to no good or are troublesome, and you've just had a new one created ... Wink

aw......can't bury my DH he's too good a cook!

Squirrels - thank you.

Builder has told DH he's coming back to look at it.

Good, don't take any crap from him - if it was an item you'd purchased which was faulty you'd take it back. A brand new patio that puddles is badly constructed and faulty.

(Mine puddles, but it's 18yo and has dipped in the middle through age and settlement, it was fine when it was new and for quite a few years. I'm looking to get it sorted out, and wouldn't consider it adequate if it still puddles afterwards).
