We've (finally) started our extension and reformat of our ground floor. The hallway, playroom and extension (about 90sqm floorspace) will all be brand new plasterboard. The builder and two plasterers have both suggested ames taping (i.e. just the joints/screws taped and filled and the rest bare plasterboard) but I've read that it is not as 'knockproof' as skim.
We had the upstairs & lounge skimmed when we moved in 3 years ago. We had a couple of pop outs and cracks but no damage as a result of kids / bangs etc.
I'm worried taping won't be so robust and I'll end up with bashed walls (2 DC, 1 en route). However time and money are both major factors (budget we gave architect already doubled and DC3 due in July) so if there's not much in it then we'll stick to taping.
Anyone got taping that's taken some abuse?
