Moving to Tring

Hi! My husband, daughter and I are looking to move to the Tring/Wendover area from Surrey. We’re looking to be closer to family in the north and west of the country whilst still commuting into London, but don’t know the area well. We’d be so grateful for any advice on what the areas are like to live in.

We’re looking at some of the villages like Aston Clinton, Pitstone and Weston Turville and wonder what they’re like for family life. Are they good places to live. We’re thinking particularly about our young daughter, so considering activities, schools etc.

We’d be so grateful for any insights on the area.

I have friends who live in Ivinghoe, lovely village and they are very happy with the local school. There’s a lovely coffee shop with a Park next to it, decent pub and a very nice restaurant. You’re also very close to ivinghoe beacon and Ashridge forest for walks. I don’t know Wendover so well but Wendover woods are fabulous. I also like Tring, a little bit sleepy but a few interesting shops and Black Gu coffee shop is very nice.

I know of those villages you mentioned but have only been to Wycombe (to the football ground 🙈😂) . There is Wigginton and Aubury surrounding Tring too and they are beautiful small villages only 5 ish mins drive into Tring. There are primary schools in Tring and 1 secondary. Also a tesco and a small high street. There are also schools in neighbouring Berkhamsted.
Not sure if that was helpful or not but it might give you some names of other nearby places to Tring x

Sorry had Wycombe on the brain for some reason! Ignore that bit lol x

Bear in mind that if you buy in a Bucks village we still have grammar schools and upper schools rather than comprehensives. If you want to avoid the stress of the 11+ you might prefer Tring which is in Herts.
Parts of Wendover will be impacted by HS2 too. The commute from Tring to Euston will be faster than the Wendover to Marylebone line. You might also consider Leighton Buzzard which has good schools and train links to London.

HS2 work is already impacting Wendover so be wary there . Cheddington is good for families , own station and lots going for it . Less pricy than Tring .

Tring railway station os nowhere near the town so you need to keep that in mind if you plan to commute. As far as I recall there’s not much in the way of parking at it either.

Its a nice enough place, sleepy as someone said. Olive Limes is fab indian, M&S foods, Tesco. Couple of cafes, gps, dentists, vets. Tring school (state) is well regarded.

Folk go to Aston Clinton etc if they can’t afford Tring (and they go to Tring if they can’t afford Berko, and they go to Berko if they can’t afford Harpenden etc etc etc). I know nothing about Aston Clinton except that it had a decent park apparently that dogs can be off the lead in.

Thank you all so much for your advice, it’s really appreciated. I think it’s looking likely that we’ll go for Pitstone to get a bit more house for our money and still be within a cycle/drive to Tring station for DH and DD and I can drive to the nearby towns for coffee etc.

It’s so difficult to make such a big move without knowing the areas well, so thank you for your insights.

Some areas around there flood so do your research.
