Crittall style windows

Deciding on windows and doors for a kitchen extension. Mentally I'm sold on Crittall style aluminium but will it date massively? They seem to be everywhere at the moment (or that should be all over Instagram).

The house style would suit them. Not a Victorian terrace where they seem to be most widely used but the garage still has an original Crittall window.

Not planning on selling for over a decade or longer. Just don't want to be sitting in my kitchen in five years time looking at a throw back from the late teens/early twenties. Wondering if wooden French doors would be better and more timeless.

Following as I am currently mildly obsessed with Crittal doors/windows! I'm even stalking a vintage set on ebay - even though I have nowhere to put them currently Grin

They are definitely having a moment, but I don't think they will date, they are pretty timeless imo. There are flats near us that were built in the ?20s and they all still have the original Crittal windows - they've always looked gorgeous even when the fashion has been for something very different.

If the house has them already then they probably would be ok. I personally dislike them in my house as I feel the style doesn’t suit small windows, and will replace as soon as possible. I used to live in a Victorian house with original crittal windows and the huge size of the windows really brought the style to life.

I LOVE them- I'm buying an edwardian terrace and will do a glass extension with crittal glass wall. I wouldn't change the windows (sash), but I hate bifolds (had the twice and regretted it) and just live the semi industrial look crittal has.
But as pp says - they may fall out of fashion, but they have been around since the 1920s.
I will also put shutters on the bay and first floor windows at the front. They don't exactly go with crittal, or are anything to do with the period of house, but I love them too and have had them in every house for the last 20 years. The back of the house will have a more open, black (kitchen) and white feel, the front cosier and homier.

Thanks all. Renewed confidence in my decision making!

Unfortunately our house had awful upvc windows which were on their way out and all needed changing. We couldn't afford to do the whole house in aluminium or wood so had to replace with upvc but I think it would all still go. Thoughts?

From the back the ground floor would be all aluminium Crittall style and above would be these windows, set back from the extension.

That photo is a bit dark but they're white and from the outside they're flush casement.

Those look like my windows, so I’d say no to crittal. I have upvc too and combined with smaller windows it makes my rooms look more prisonly than stately lol

@GrumpyHoonMain that's good to know. I'm definitely not going for a prison vibe Grin
