Online kitchen design tools.

Dh and I are wondering about getting a new kitchen, and have been looking at some of the different websites - Magnet, Howdens, Wren etc - to see if we could create a design for our new kitchen. What we want to be able to do is to work out what units and appliances we need and then cost that up.

Magnet have a design tool, and we have fought our way through it to create a kitchen layout that fits our kitchen, and does what we want - but we can't see how to use that information to visualise a kitchen. It doesn't seem to offer the option to change the units specified in the original plan. We want to be able to take the plan we have, and say 'what does it look like with units from X range and appliances from Y manufacturer, and how much would that cost?' - and then change the unit range or appliance manufacturer, and the accessories, to see how that affects the look and the price - but the Magnet tool doesn't seem to want to do this - and we can't see how to specify the units we want and the appliances we want in the basic design tool.

So, Oh wise mumsnetters - does anyone know of a generic online kitchen planning tool we could use, or can you recommend a manufacturer/installer that has a good one (one that won't involve us sitting up late into the night, muttering sweary words as we try to make the units fit).

And on a more general note - who makes good kitchens? I have looked at B&Q - does anyone have experience of their kitchens and the fitting process? Is there anyone we should avoid?

I'd love a high end kitchen, but don't have a particularly high budget (about £10K), and I like traditional Shaker style kitchens.

Thanks in advance.

DIY kitchens has an online planner that is quite straight forward to use a very clear pricing model and good quality our DIY kitchen was £2000 less than Wickes for better quality, and people have said the Ikea planner is easy to use, B&Q is one that people have said on here dosent last long term

I have just had mine done with Wren and if you send them the dimensions of your kitchen and an idea of what kitchen you like they make a 3D version of your kitchen for you. Really helped visualise it. They were also really good fitting etc!

That is good to know - thank you, @hellhavenofury.

Magnet factory assembled comes out on top of the high street brands according to Which?. Its rated their Best Buy. The flat-pack ranges from them score slightly less but still well.
I have used a generic kitchen design thing and it really is just to get the idea of space - you can do some colours but not different styles. So just using it for layout purposes. Kitchenplanner.net
