Giant front door

My house has a funny little porch built in front of the original front door (it's a old house) and while the porch is brick built in the main and in reasonable nick, the door is falling apart. I think it was built for the porch especially as it's 2.25m tall which is quite a lot taller than a normal front door.

The maximum height of off the shelf doors seems to be 2.10m so that won't do. Where could I get one made? Is it a joiner/carpenter I need? Is that something that is a fairly easy run of the mill thing to do? I have had some windows replaced in the house and they say they can't do it.

Welcome any advice!

joiner

ask to see some of their recent work before placing an order

speak to the householder.

a trained joiner is capable of making doors and windows from pieces of wood using nothing but a pencil, measure. setsquare, saws, chisels and a plane.

he may have become disillusioned after spending years fixing factory-made chipboard into houses.

Brilliant! Thank you, that's super helpful. I shall start my quest to find someone

btw a competent joiner can aso dismantle a door into its component parts, repair any damage, and rebuild with new wedges and glue so it will last another hundred years.

A wooden door benefits from protection from the rain, by at least a canopy or open porch.

it is important to paint the top and bottom of a door, since these are the parts most often neglected, and prone to attack by damp and insects.

It's a crappy door made from really cheap wood that hasn't been seasoned or finished sadly. Really not worth repairing. The original door and windows are solid oak and in perfect nick.
