The bay windows in my house (late Victorian) are covered in hideous white PVC cladding. The neighbours nearby seem to have painted wood bays, rather than stone etc. The entire inside of the bays are made of wooden panelling, rather than brick and there doesn’t seem to be any insulation in between.
I’m just wondering what the options are for restoring it. The rooms with the bay windows are very cold and quite loud (it is almost like people walking past are in the room sometimes). However, the windows (also PVC) do need to be replaced too, so it may be that causing the issues.
It would seem sensible to go for wood like the rest of the street, but not sure if this is the warmest and quietest option. I’ve also seen some excellent restorations online that recreate the traditional decorative stone look, but I’m having difficulty finding anyone local (North East) who does this. I’ve also considered insulating then rendering, but again, not sure if this is the best option in terms of how it looks. I also don’t really know which sort of trades to reach out to for quote.
If you have experience of this, any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
