Not sure if this is the right place but I would love to know if anyone has done this. Looking to retire in the next year. We have a small lock up and leave in Spain which we love, but due to elderly parents we can't spend long periods there at the moment. So look for some thing in the UK probably Yorkshire. Though about a mobile home but haven't found a site we like and the site fees are expensive. Thought about a chalet on the coast but again fees are expensive and then there are rates as well. Could spend up to £40,000. Would need to sleep 4. Has anyone got any alternatives?

You can buy a second hand mobile home for £11k with a good 10 years left, site fees another £1800 at the site we use in the Dales and brand new ones for £25k upwards. Doubt you'd find an actual bricks and mortar property in a nice area for £40k, especially on the coast...

Oh that's good value would you mind telling me the name of it. I know we couldn't get bricks and mortar. We could get a chalet but the fees are expensive. We had considered getting something in France but that wouldn't help with parents situation.

Heathfields caravan site in pateley bridge in the dales. They usually have second hand ones or even new available. Just keep an eye out on their website. Things come up all the time.

Thank you I'll have a look at the website.

I've been contemplating this recently. Although I'm in Ireland. Same as you, I'm not keen on the €2000 annual site fees for a mobile.

Then I started seeing plots of land everywhere, so affordable. However I wouldn't want the hassle and waiting of building.

So then I started to look at those log cabins and wondering....could you buy a plot of land and have one of those on it.

I know you'd need water, sewerage, electricity etc

I wonder would it be practical.....🤔

Not sure it would be practical to buy a plot. Looked at chalets in Bridlington but I think they are only viable if you rent them out and I'm not sure I'd want to do that.

If it’s somewhere you want to retire to check the lease - many sites don’t allow 12 month residency and/or close for periods of time.

Is Yorkshire where you want to be long term because if not might be worth long term renting some one else’s cabin / carava

We are looking at this too at the moment, site fees vary so much, also the cost if chalets where we are have doubled in cost in the past year.

We missed out on a bid this week, lovely chalet, immaculate condition offered 2k under asking, cash offer, as it had a bath, which we would take out and install walk-in shower, the chalet was overpriced at £32k, but simply a case of supply & demand at the moment, not too disappointed at the fees were £2.4K pa, we would definitely rent it out as we don’t need to holiday during school hols anymore.

We will keep looking, but I don’t think we will buy one realistically until next year, when hopefully there will be more available.

Good luck with your search OP.

Thank you, we are looking to split our time between our current area, will downsize massively, Spain and somewhere else. Will keep looking at chalets I think. We found a lovely static site at Patrington Hill and would have bought there except there is very little to do in the area.

You can sometimes get flats near to your budget in Bridlington, but Pateley Bridge is gorgeous, lovely little High Street with listed buildings and the UKs oldest sweet shop, lots of walks nearby.
