Wooden windows

I’m currently getting quotes to replace our very old pvc windows with wooden window (casement style). One of the window companies is trying to convince me that wood effect windows are the way to go, as a) they’re cheaper than wood and b) require no maintenance.

I’m pretty sure that wood windows look better and suit the style/price of the house. Would I really need to paint them all every 2-3 years? Any advice please about either wood or “wood effect”?

I used to work for an architects who would specify timber windows all the time. They used this paint brand because it lasted years (note the base coat/prep advice as it's quite important for making it long lasting):

I love timber windows and hope to change mine one day!

I used to have wooden windows at my house and I'd have to repaint them all the time. Whenever it rained the wood felt like it discoloured and started to rot, so I spent a lot of time maintaining them.

They're great if you have the time to set aside, but not if you have a busy schedule!

I viewed a house recently which had sash wood effect pvc windows- they looked great. As I've paid £900 per window for wooden double glazed sash I'd consider pvc on smaller upper floor windows next time, but bet good quality ones will be almost as expensive.
