It's a big purchase, so yes to feeling wobbly. .I would stop looking at rightmove!

Yes, you need to stop looking. Also, remember that the most perfect house on paper can also not work in reality.

I remember a house I LOVED from the brochure. It was a beautiful Edwardian house and so lovely from the outside and the front hall/kitchen were both wow rooms. Top top top of our budget, so I was thinking of all the ways to convince DH we NEEDED that house. Anyway, when I viewed, it felt really flat. Wasn’t as nice as I’d imagined, there were things I actually didn’t like that would have been a compromise. It actually sold for over the asking price and I sometimes drive by (it’s still the nicest house we saw from the outside) and think that the buyers really overpaid for what they got.

Yeah stop looking at Rightmove.

Also consider how many properties you viewed that looked great online but in person just weren't all that. Every property we saw online could have been "the one" (and that's why we rushed out to view them) but 90% of them just didn't pass muster on the day for various reasons that EAs obviously don't mention in their listings!

I'm impressed that your 12yr old is browsing Rightmove and forwarding you properties! Very grown up! Grin

When you have bought a new house the worst thing to do is to look at righty move in your area/ price range. You feel upset if you see something nicer and cheaper

Whoateallthechocolate · 12/04/2021 10:14

With all house purchases there is always going to be the "one that got away" or the "what might have been". However, unlike boyfriends/husbands, house purchases have to be head over heart - even in a crazy market - and so focus on the reasons why you chose this one over all of the others you viewed and why you came up with the criteria that you did. At 12, your DD's plans won't be as restricted by practicalities such as mortgage payments, commute times, distance to the school bus etc. I have some idea of this as I stupidly introduced my 8yo DC2 to the joys of browsing Rightmove and was regularly called to see the "perfect" house - which meant it had a flat lawn with enough space for 2 football goals - regardless of price, location etc.

Figmentofimagination · 12/04/2021 10:24

I agree there will always be the one that got away and it's really hard not to compare. But there will be reasons why you chose your house, that made you think "this is the one" and you should focus on that.

I'm struggling with similar. I saw an amazing house that ticks majority of the boxes. I saw it online on Thursday, accepted an offer on my house on Friday, and by the time I called to book a viewing the house has already been removed from the market as the interest for it has been huge. Now every house I look at I compare to that one, and I'm struggling to find houses I like.

QueenOfPain · 12/04/2021 10:32

I’ve had to stop looking at right move since I had my offer accepted, there are some lovely lovely houses that come up, but when I draw myself back to all of the reasons why I felt the property I’m buying was the right one for me, they still stand.
