Colour ideas for communal areas in converted Georgian building

We are having the communal areas redecorated in our building - it's a Georgian terrace with 5 flats in it. The communal areas are the hallway and then stairs up to the top floor. We've been asked for input on the colour of the paint and carpet.
It is currently painted magnolia with a light brown carpet and white gloss bannisters. I'd love to get rid of the magnolia and brown, but have confused myself looking at paint charts. None of the other owners particularly have an opinion, it's me that really wants to put a bit of thought into it.
Does anyone have any good suggestions?! Thank you!!

Tbh I'd go for something low maintenance - dark, hardwearing carpet, no white gloss paint, lighter neutral than magnolia on the walls

Thank you, any ideas for a good neutral - grey tones or will that date too quickly?

I've been in a very similar position a couple of times.

One I went for dark yellow but there was no carpet. It came out much darker and brighter than I expected!

Second I still like 10+ years on. Walls are cream from a traditional colour paint chart. Woodwork is satinwood in white. Carpet is dark gold. It's an Axminster I think, we paid top dollar for it but it's lasted well, I expect at least another 10 years from it. It just gets vacuumed twice a week and cleaned once or twice a year.

Please don't do magnolia.

Thank you, really good idea to look at a traditional colour chart. I promise not to do magnolia (!) but also think the current fashionable greys might date quickly and look out of place with the age of the building.
I’m going to have a look at traditional colours now.

Some of the "greige" type colours that are trendy at the moment date really well I think and can look pretty classic. We've used Lick Greige paint and F&B Shadow White and both look good with satinwood skirting boards in white. Love the idea of yellow!
