Is 2 to 2.5 metres too small for an extension?

We currently have a narrow feeling kitchen diner which is about 6.8 wide by 3 metre deep. We are thinking of extending this by 2 to 2.5 metres so that it becomes around 5 to 5.5 by 6.8 metres.
Has anyone here gone for smaller extensions like this? Did it make enough of a difference to the room to make it feel worthwhile (builders have advised cost is similar irrespective of how far back we extend)? Are we likely to be able to fit in a little sofa/ armchair seating area too or will it be just a spacious kitchen diner?

I think it will make a huge different going from 3m deep to 5m, I’m planning on doing the same. It will turn a narrow galley kitchen into a nice room without loosing too much outside space.

It will are a big difference. My friend always regrets not doing a 1m extension as she says just that bit more space would have made it more functional. Whether that would allow you a seating area depends on the layout of the rest of the space - kitchen units amd island etc.

Will make a difference but will most likely be disproportionality expensive

When I bought my (old & very tatty) house, the kitchen was 3m by 3.5m. The previous owners had built a dIY flat roofed "extension" along the back of the house so that the kitchen window opened into it. It was 2.5m deep and made the kitchen very dark. It was also falling apart so I had it knocked down and replaced with a brick built extension of the same size.

We knocked the kitchen through and ended up with a 5.5m x 3.5m kitchen. I have french windows and velux windows built into the new bit so my horrible dark cramped kitchen is now big, light and sunny. I've added a small table and chairs rather than a sofa so we eat breakfast with the French windows open in the summer. It has transformed the house so for me, yes, it was worth it.
