Tanking/damp proofing cellar

Hello

My flat (London, Victorian conversion, ground floor) has a cellar of sorts - bare walls and a void going under other rooms, very prone to damp, about 5.5ft ceiling.

I’m keen to turn it into functional storage space, if not an extra room - I guess the latter would be really expensive.

Necessity is that it is damp proof. Ideal is that it would also be 6ft ceiling.

Has anyone had something similar done? How long did it take and how much did it cost? Is the aim to make the ceiling higher (ie dig down) a fools errand?

Thanks!

For it to be habitible it will need digging out to provide minimum head height, which costs a lot (£40k in the north west for a 3x4 space). If you just want storage it will depend on what's needed -you'll lose height due to needs a sump and drainage etc so may not be as useful as you hope, for the cost.

Ooof ok that’s a lot more than anticipated. Thank you.

How much space would you lose if just tanked?

depends on the needs but could be half a foot or more.
