Need a freestanding oven that is less than 60cm in depth.

Urgently need a freestanding cooker for my daughter who is moving in to a rented property. The width is 65cm but because of a water pipe running along the skirting the depth is ony 56cm deep. Has anyone seen anything that would fit?

Have you looked online at AO or similar sites where you put in the measurements

Imtoooldforallthis · 01/04/2021 15:59

I've literally looked at every site I can think of, every one is 60 cm.

If she is on her own would she manage with a baby belling

Not really she has two children and it is a lovely new build so it would be a shame for her kitchen not to look nice.

We had this exact issue years ago (same measurements!) and couldn't find one. Don't think cooker makers account for pipes!

We got a 60cm one in the end and surprisingly it looked absolutely fine. Something 'sticking out' would usually annoy me every time I looked at it but it wasn't noticeable at all once it was in. I think because cookers tend to have extractors etc and look different to the rest of the units anyway your eye doesn't notice a few cm.

Not going to be easy to ascertain, but you might find that cookers that are advertised as 60cm deep aren't necessarily 60cm deep for the full height. So it might work with the pipe anyway?

Is it a newbuild on an estate? Are there neighbours in similar houses who have already moved in?

Imtoooldforallthis · 01/04/2021 16:58

If we could go look we might find one that is inset at the bottom at the back if you see what I mean. I was going to suggest she speaks to the neighbours. I have sat all afternoon looking on line.

I'm sure the one we had had a sort of vent bit at the back so it was only the top 10cm that were actually 60cm deep. Quite some time ago now though.

I’ve just had a look at mine (indesit) and it’s only the very top which is 60cm deep. There’s a kind of vented bit at the back that sticks out, but below that it’s shallower.

Imtoooldforallthis · 01/04/2021 17:39

That Indesit sounds promising, thank you.

All cookers have a gap at the back for pipes, skirting boards etc. The full measurement is at the top only, there is normally a 5cm or so grill to close the gap and allow for ventilation. I'm sure it will be fine but ideal to look in a showroom where you can check before buying.

there are a few 50cm cookers made, years ago it used to be the standard size and they are still sold for people with small kitchens.

Cannon still make them, they are part of the Indesit group so probably badged with their other brands too.

oooops, looks like they are 60cm deep now.
