What colour would you go for personally?

The rest of the house is the yellow brick. We will eventually have a black and white Victorian pathway.

Or a very warm soft buttery yellow

Spied · 31/03/2021 12:32

I was going to say pillar box red however with the green stained glass, I think I'd keep it a dark bottle green.

tortoiselover100 · 31/03/2021 12:33

Sage green

floofycroissant · 31/03/2021 12:33

Black door, white frame to match the tiles

EdgeOfFortyNine · 31/03/2021 12:35

Cobalt blue

Cluckycluck · 31/03/2021 13:22

Something along the lines of Farrow and Ball Dutch Orange would be fantastic.

Findingnemo2 · 31/03/2021 14:53

Going against the grain 😉. Frame definitely same colour as the door. It is a 'thing' and definitely makes the door appear larger and grander. Take a look on Pinterest for ideas.

Ruby red

Lurkingforawhile · 31/03/2021 18:07

Can I change my mind to pale pink? A PP suggested it and I remembered I'd seen a beautiful one recently

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 31/03/2021 18:15

I may be biased because I'm about to paint mine yellow, but I do think yellow can look awesome on a Victorian house (mine isn't). There are a pair of Victorian houses near me both with all yellow woodwork in slightly different shades and they look awesome. Mylands have some really nice yellow shades - much nicer than the Farrow and Ball yellow range, and I haven't managed to find any cheaper paints which have yellow in their outdoor range.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 31/03/2021 18:17

Pale pink would also be lovely, but I'm not convinced it goes with orange (your tiles)

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 31/03/2021 18:18

Oh bum - missed that you are changing tiles. The brick pillars are also orange toned though so you'd need to pick your pink very carefully.

I was going to say bright yellow, to go with the stained glass. That pic looks fabulous.
OysterMonkey · 31/03/2021 18:19

And I think a yellow door would cheer you up a bit, whenever you’d had a shit day.

I love Mylands paint, brilliant coverage & a lovely finish I have a fuchsia pink front door thinking of changing it to yellow.

@Dooreen

I would love to make yellow/lime green work, it would make a very happy looking house. I suspect it would be about getting that perfect shade, and I wouldn’t be confident enough to go for it! Also DH would not let me.

Looks like the vote is with red but keep any other opinions coming. Thank you.

Try Little Greene Lemon Mivvi

It's a sharp yellow almost but not quite lime/fluorescent and definitely not a yellow custardy one. That should work?

Ouchiehelpneeded · 31/03/2021 20:16

I love sap green our neighbors have used on their windows and it's beautiful.

Soppyspanieleyes · 31/03/2021 20:19

@Dooreen

Oh and would you paint the whole doorframe the same colour as the door?

I think this would look good and make the door appear larger, however it doesn’t seem to be the done thing, all the door frames around seem to be white. Does anyone know why this is? Maybe I just have bad taste 😊

I work for a company who make and fit timber doors and whilst the majority of frames are white, when we have a single door that is a bit narrower, we often paint the frame the same colour as it does make it look wider.
Lonelycrab · 31/03/2021 20:25

I reckon an olive green, going towards brown. A deep earthy colour.

Gingernaut · 31/03/2021 20:25

Red to match the red bricks around the door and the tiles.

Farrow & Ball are very expensive.
