I'm knocking through my galley kitchen and dining room. I'd thought that the new kitchen would go where the old one was. And that we'd end up with the same story of space minus a wall. But several appointments with the kitchen designer later, we just can't make it work. I don't think there's enough worktop space or cupboards.
Our builder has suggested putting the kitchen on the other side of the room e.g the old dining room. Builder says easy enough to move plumbing etc though will cost a bit more. I've had a play around with the online planner and it does seem to work better, gets more units /worktop and gives more flexible dining space. And can fit a large larder type cupboard in an awkward space, as well as having full height fridge and freezer.
But is it the right thing to do? I'm nervous about putting appliances along the party wall (noise, smell) but not sure if I have any reason to be worried? I am worried about putting the washing machine and tumble dryer along the wall shared with the living room. Though it's a small house and we already cope with the noise.
I'm also nervous that no one else has done this. Most of the neighbours have similar houses but when knocking through have kept the kitchens in the same place. We end of terrace though so do have a slightly different shape to others.
Am I missing something? Why don't people tend to move the kitchen over? Are there pitfalls I'm missing?
I've attached pictures of both options.
