Restoring an old door - is it hard?

I have an old Victorian door that I want to install in my home. It matches the other door I have in the hallway perfectly!

However, it needs some work as it has hinge indents in the wood where the old hinges were, an old keyhole that has been filled with white filler, a random circular hole that doesn’t go all the way through the wood and flecks of white paint on the panels and sides. Once it has been restored I will need to attach new handles and hang it in the doorway.

As a total DIY novice, how easy would it be to learn how to do this myself and is it a big job? Or I would I be better calling in a professional joiner or carpenter and if so, how much roughly would they charge?

Any advice welcome!

Are you going to paint the door or leave in wood finish ?

@Chumleymouse sorry, I should have included that vital detail! I want to leave it with a wood finish.

It’s going to be difficult to patch up the door , without it showing up the filled in hinge cut outs.

When I’ve rehung old doors before I’ve trimmed down the doors slightly and cut off the old hinge cut outs, but that was with fitting them into new linings made to fit the narrower door.

You could but the hinges back in the hinge cut outs on the door and then fill the cut outs in the frame instead if they don’t match ? Assuming your painting the frame.

Try and get some door furniture you like that will cover all the holes in the door , that will be the best approach rather than trying to fill/ splice them.

You can watch YouTube videos on rehanging doors but being a novice you may lack the tools needed to do it ? Probably looking at between £50-100 for someone to come and rehang it.
