How to move a house sale along

I've accepted an offer on mine
I've had an offer accepted on the house I want
I've filled in initial paperwork on both properties
I've paid required initial money for both.
Buyer has had a survey done on this.
I've instructed a survey on the one I want.

What's next in the process. Without wanting to nag people, I hate it when people faff about. Is there a way to keep things moving?

Email your solicitor and chivy them along. Ask what more is needed for exchange. Do that. Repeat.

I find, 'I'm just ringing to check if there is anything you are waiting on from us' a good reason to speak to solicitors and then get a bit of an update.

Our solicitors seem pretty on it though, so I only do this if I haven't heard from them for a week.

Enquiries are next. This can be straightforward like 'is the parking assigned or first come' and 'who is responsible for maintaining X wall', to 'survey indicates damp so further investigation required'. This can take a couple weeks of answers going back and forth.
If the chain is longer than your buyer and you and seller then all of them will be doing this to varying degrees. Patience is required.
You should then get a pack from your solicitor with all the forms, searches and so on, and then you may have questions (like 'are they really expecting me to pay £££ for a five year old washing machine?'). Times the amount of people in the chain.
Hopefully nothing will be too alarming for any of you and things can proceed.
I'm in a chain for the first time in 20 years (I've moved four times but not in a chain), and it's driving me mad.

Find out when the surveyor you have instructed will be doing it and by when will you have the report?

Once you have the results of the survey, and the PIF form from your vendors, your solicitor will compile a list of any queries arising from both and any other queries that you have. Your solicitor will request a list of all relevant documents; FENSA, electrical certificates, guarantees. for boiler, ant planning permission or building regs sign offs as appropriate.

Your buyers solicitor will send you a similar list, so be read with every possible bit of paperwork concerning your house and services.

Don’t chivvy for the sake of it, only when you know something should have arrived.

Check with solicitors your searches have been put in. Some local authorities are taking an age atm.
